    Hi all

Has anyone had their battery disconnected for a long period of time and what does it do to the truck??
I am curious if I am going to have problems. I had a short notice trip for 6 months, and did not have a trickle charger, so I disconnected my 2019 Taco 12V battery. I hope when I reconnect the battery next week everything will be ok. I had a Pontiac that if the battery was disconnected more than a few minutes, the dealer would have to do something with the computer to get the speedometer to work. Hopefully Toyota did not make a trap like that!

    Thanks Barndog

I wouldn't think there would be an issue....

I'd put a battery tender on in lieu of disconnecting. If not near an outlet, get one that is solar powered. That is what I use for my 'extra' vehicle that has a spot in the garage. And I agree with fuel treatment. Try to burn down the fuel you have with ethanol and get some 100% gas in the tank.

Yup, a solar battery minder and ethanol free fuel, being e0 87 or premium.

if you can safely suck out the electrolyte, store it and dump it back in when needed, you won't need a tender
not too many people have storage for acids though...but if you do...simplifies things

the truck ? maybe run it down to reserve, toss in gas stabilizer, drive ten miles then go fill it up,
then park it with full tank [but possibly stronger stabilizer mix in the fuel rails and injectors]

With the battery disconnected that long some things like Locks, Windows, and Sunroof may not function properly and need an initializing process.

My 01 needs to “re map” itself if it goes without power for some time. I’d like to think these wouldn’t have that problem.

Hopefully you have a low rodent population though. Thats a whole other thing.

The most reliable thing is to have someone drive it and fill it regularly.
Respectfully, if you have a job that gives you little (to no) notice for 6 months of travel- you should already have caretakers in place.

Greatest job I ever had, was a caretaker for a retired couple that loved traveling the world.

Like the OP, I'd be interested in an answer for this specific vehicle (3rd Gen, in my case 2020 TRD Pro). I can speak to generalities and other vehicles as well as the next guy. For example, in my '14 Jeep JKUR, the only thing it does is lose the time and currently tuned radio station, and in my '14 Mazda3, for some odd reason the power window auto-up option has to "re-learn" the "auto" part. But I can see the situation where I may have the battery disconnected for a while. For example, I may use one of those disconnect terminals and take the knob with me when hiking, so the truck is still there when I get back to the trail head. And other reasons.

So, following for a (hopefully) specific answer to this vehicle.

I work out of town about half the year with the long stretch of about 2 1/2 months. disconnected batteries on both my '16 and '19 with no ill effects multiple times.

Battery was disconnected over 6 months. Reconnected the battery (12.38V) The truck started really good. I have put about 700 miles on it since reconnecting battery. The truck is running very good. Since reconnecting the battery I haven't had any of the indicator light problems I was having. It must have reset something.

    Thanks all for the input.

Also, you consider 6 months to be a “short trip” o_O
