Hey folks, I've got my 2017 TRDOR that I baby all the time. Last night I parked it in the driveway at 7PM then went to move it in the garage at 10PM and she was real groggy and barely fired-up. I thought maybe I left the lights on somehow even though I highly doubted it.

I put her on the charger last night and this morning when I went to go to work she was just as groggy. Again, doubting the worst, I thought maybe the charger wasn't working. So like a dumb-ass decided to drive it to work with the headlights and AC off (it was daylight after all and cool out) and thought the battery would be good as new once I finished the 25 mile drive to work.

    Nope, seems deader than ever.

Has anyone else had battery issues? Any thoughts? Do you think Toyota's going to deem the battery dust and give me a new one or what?

Yeah the dealer should give you a new battery, sometimes they just go bad like that.

on my 2015 I had less than 36k miles on it and the I had a battery issue. it was sluggish to start so I took it into the service dept. they took the keys said it was the battery and handed me the keys back with a new battery in it. all is good since then. like I said, it was under 36k and probably 1 1/2 years old at the time. maybe its the dealership I have don't know but you should have zero issues.

probably the battery for sure but have you done ANYTHING to the truck electrically?
the reason I ask is if you get a new battery and it still happens then you need to have them do a parasitic draw test. that's the extreme ( but easy ) though...... its the battery

The battery in my 2013 went suddenly dead at about 18 months/15,000 miles. I bought a new one at an autozone (it was on a Sunday so I had to get it) and sent the bill and a nice note to Toyota and they sent me a check with no questions asked.

Funny I go to the Del Taco on 1st street in Barstow all the time, but I went to go to the original one over on Main and they were flip'n closed. And I made a special Huell Howser event out of it. It's a Hamburger stand, but recognized as the original home of DT.

Dealer will test the batt and the charging system under a load, the proper way to do it. There could be issues with charging system and you wouldn't know it without the test equipment.

The only time my truck has been back to the dealer was for a new (free) battery after mine developed a bad cell. It would only read about 10.2 volts after charging.

FWIW, my battery crapped out this weekend. Took it local dealership (not where I bought it) and service mgr said Tacoma's are known for battery issues. He's replacing with a new factory battery. I wonder if its the factory battery vs a better brand like an Interstate?

Buy a battery yourself and send the receipt to Toyota and you will get reimbursed

Due to time I simply had my local dealership replace the battery for free. Talking with my brother who has had several Taco's and 2 Tundra's he suggested buying one also and getting reimbursed. Live and learn...

My battery kicked around 60k miles; looked at it as a qualified upgrade expense and got a bigger/better one. All good now
