Hey guys, just a quick question ..... what is the expected life for a factory installed battery
bought my 2014 DC 4x4 v6 in 2014, brand new; and have put almost 80K miles on it
And wanted to know as to when I should think about replacing the battery
    Thanks!!

Mine only made it to around 70k.
Went to a Optima Red battery so my winch had its own terminals.

if you get over 4 years on a battery your doing good. if you need to replace it I highly recommend WALMART they have good warrantys and decent price.

Generally, 4-6 years, but there are many variables. Probably biggest killer is draining the battery to where it can't start the car - be it a parisitic drain, bad alternator or leaving a component on after turning off the car. Short drives doesn't allow the battery to get fully charged and that can lead to sulfation or a condition called acid stratification. Extreme temperatures can freeze or evaporate battery fluid in a battery that is not fully charged.

I replaced mine in May, was very surprised to find that it was the original battery with the sticker reading 01/11. The previous owner purchased the truck in Utah, so it lived a few years there and a few here in Arizona. Almost 6 1/2 years out of a battery kinda surprised me

5 yrs is a good number - I bought one - kept it in the garage with a battery tender just for shites & giggles - my OEM lasted 8 yrs B 4 I had to change it out with the one in the garage.

I just replaced my 2015 battery a few weeks ago. 50k on the clock. Pretty disappointed but was a good oppurtunity to upgrade.

Got my Tacoma in Dec. 2009.
Replaced battery in March 2012... so 3.3 years with stock battery.
Just replaced that one last week (Aug. 2017). Almost 5.5 years aftermarket battery.

Heat and deep discharge is the death of batteries. I got 4 years of my last one and my current is at 12.5 volts at charge. Probably at half life. Hopefully it will make it through the winter.

It varies widely and the individual battery matters. I have an 07. The factory battery lasted until 2015. That battery lasted less than 2 years and I just installed a 3rd. I'm at 181,000 currently.

Neither is typical. In hot weather like here in GA 3-5 years is more typical so I got lucky on the 1st one. The 2nd was most likely defective and I should have pushed the warranty issue. But that is another story.

I live in the southwest desert and if I get 3 years I'm lucky.
It's not the truck or car. It is the environment.

I boight my truck in Sept of 2010, replaced the oem battery in April 2012, replace battery again in May 2014. Luckily both times I was in my driveway. I'm debating on changing my battery proactively this time around. Funny thing is, the second battery I had tested at autozone and they said it was fine, then less than a month later it died. Never left the lights on or anything.

I make tons of short trips , only have 55k miles on my truck (~15 minute trips) and Texas heat kills batteries fast.

The battery in my 1st gen Tacoma lasted 11 years. I could tell it was going out because it sometimes didn't crank normally when starting. No idea what the previous owner did with the truck.
