    I was taught in school, generally speaking, a car battery is designed to deliver a large amount of power for a short period of time (like cranking an engine) and a marine/deep cycle is designed to deliver a small(er) amount of power for a long period of time

    I would assume an automotive charging system isn't designed to charge a deep cycle correctly but I could be wrong. Admittedly I don't have the experience guys like you have, with campers and house battery stuff going on..
