I hear they are very heavy-as should be I guess for the power they make. I also hear that our Tacoma's have issues with the core support area failing. Will going with a beast like the Northstar battery cause long term issues with the battery box area of the rig? Just wondering before I pull the trigger on a new battery.

Just got a new 27F myself. Sure it’s heavier than the OEM battery but not by that much. Should you go with a 31, that’s a different story. I’ve got no problem here.

For reference, the 27F, 710 CCA OEM battery (Johnson Controls made) that came with my TRD OR with tow pkg. weighs in at slightly more than 51 lbs.

I too share the concern about the weak core support so I made an under support from the battery tray down vertically to the frame using some of the rubber bushings salvaged from upper shock mounts and the OEM rubber bushings from the core support (replaced then by urethane ones from Energy Suspension), some 1/2" OD all-thread, large washers and an L-bracket at the frame. Nuts on the all-thread allow me to adjust the support force applied on the bushings to maintain the gaps in the body panels at the LH fender and hood to the same on the RH side.

I'm sure other TW members have even longer experiences with theirs but, FWIW, I've run my Northstar 27F for a couple of years with ZERO problems.

    If you don't need the 27F's 930CCA and 195min RC, the 24F (840CCA and 160min) will save you 11lbs.

Note that you'll need a voltage booster to properly/fully charge any AGM battery you install.
