Battery question. I had a plan...

So i was all jazzed up to get a walmart ever-start maxx 27F
Low and behold the 27 only comes in 1 type from wal mart with the posts on the opposite sides than we need in our trucks.

However they have a 24F maxx with 750cca, which is more than oem 27.
That should be more than adequate considering the current battery(24F from 2011) is 710cca.

Is it really worth seeking out a different brand 27 or would grabbing the 24 be fine regardless?

Im not towing campers up snowy mountain sides or anything. I just know the battery has been struggling with the remote start this winter and the past couple days it has been a bitch to start.

 

I learned the hardway with my first ever start battery purchase. Wifes pilot needed a new batter, went to local walmart and found the right size and all. Brought it home and realized the posts were on opposite sides as well!!

That being said... You won't have any issues... As long as it is a 12V battery the only real differences, besides fit, are Cranking Amps and Reserve Capacity.

24F works fine, i had the same exact thing happen to me and then found out they dont carry a 27f

 

You have to have the " F " which designates that the terminals are reversed from standard.

 

Previous owner extended the positive and ground cables on the truck to allow this. Not a Walmart battery specifically, but to allow the option of a larger or different style battery. If you do it right, it's not a big deal. I haven't had any issues in the 3 yrs since I owned it.

 

Deka, AutoZone; NAPA make a 27F. Pep Boys carries the Bosch line in a 27F. In another thread about this 27F issue a member said the Bosch did not fit; took it back. Not sure about this - just pointing out one persons findings.
I'm sure you can find other mfgs. that provide a 27F.
Mine is 3 1/2 yrs. old and will be replaced with another when the time comes - likely Deka or NAPA. I've used Deka a number of times in another vehicle. Good stuff in my opinion.

 

F was for ford back in the day or at least most of them did use a reversed battery

Just bought this from batteries + bulbs its a NorthStar 5 year full replacement its a beast. If you can wait.

In our trucks with the battery in the front left corner, you want the "F" because it puts the positive post furthest away from a ground source. If you put a non-F, you can flip it around so the positive is not right next to the fender. But it's now close to the front radiator support, although not as close as to the fender. However, as has been noted, you will need longer cables. Generally, the only advantage to a group 27 over a 24 is a longer reserve capacity.
