So my wife just bought a peg perego four wheeler for my kid (think big power wheels). She got it off craigslist without a battery or charger and it's a bit of a mess which will take some work to get running auk though it looks like it will be pretty bad ass when it's done

So my question is the battery/charger. It should have a 12volt/12ah battery per the manufactures web site which runs almost $100 with their charger being around $60.

Can I use a regular car battery with my trickle charger that I already own without frying the car?

I know ah on the peg perego refers more to how time of use before the battery is dead and cold cranking amps is amount of power at 0 degrees but how do they relate to each other?

    Thanks

Chuck, the battery is most probably a Sealed Lead Acid (SLA) battery. The first question, before buying a charger, is it an AGM or Gel Cell SLA type because the charging voltages are different? Any 12-volt "smart" charger with a charging current two amps or less designed for that specific battery type will recharge and maintain it. [For more information on battery types, please see Section 7 in the Car and Deep Cycle Battery FAQ found on www.batteryfaq.org. For information on charging and chargers, please see Section 9.]

The second question is the battery healthy? Once the battery has been recharged, load testing will quickly determine that. If the battery has been not charged for over a year, there is a good possibility it has sulfated and will not take a charge.
