Are you still running this arrangement? I'm getting ready to relocate my starter battery to the passenger side and this is an attractive option, I'm waffling between doing this or running new cable down to the starter.

Edit: To clarify, I'm asking about using distribution blocks specifically.

Thanks to info in this thread I relocated my starting battery to the passenger side n my '17, thanks OP. I used the Painless Performance distribution blocks and 2 AWG welding cable to the battery, it's just under an 8' run so that seemed to be the sufficient size. It's working great but I'm not thrilled with the presentation so I'm thinking about picking up one of those HF Pelican case knockoffs to mount this stuff in.

@E.J. Does the on/off switch double as your battery isolator? I’m not intending to pick on you; just pointing it to others out as an option to the costlier isolator setups. It’s probably the most cost effective setup with the tradeoff that you have to open the hood to connect the second battery. I’ve seen the on/off switch placed inside the cab but that requires drilling holes in the firewall to route the wiring. What I don't see is the fuse in the wiring for the second battery - it should be placed as close as possible to the pos battery terminal. Maybe its out of sight under the cowl?

The switch is just for my winch, I'm using a Redarc BCDC to manage the second battery. There's a fuse on the positive battery terminals on both ends.

@E.J. Gotcha. I was hoping for the ‘poor man’ option to point it out as an option rarely seen. Guess I did that regardless.

I definitely gave that option some serious consideration but 3rd gens don't charge AGMs exactly properly, they do sufficiently for a starting battery but not so great for topping off a house battery. My only regret with the BCDC was paying extra to have Off-grid Engineering pre wire it for the under hood dual battery arrangement, he did a beautiful job but I undid/re-did a bunch of it for the new house battery location behind the back seat.

Those don't work on 3rd gens unfortunately, only way to change the charging voltage is with a tune.

    RAMONA,CA.
There is a Ford factory part that does this same function at a cost of abou$12 vs $50 for the Australian one.

@WOODY2 It was only $35 when I bought mine, and I knew about the cheaper part but I wanted the part designed for the function, and it has a money back guarantee.

What size fuse you running off the starting battery, I just mounted my relocation tray and am getting ready to install. I was under the impression that I should be using a 250/300 amp fuse just for starting

I don't have a fuse between the starting battery and the starter. I didn't consider it because there wasn't one in the stock location, but it it sounds like good idea. Looks like the OP is using a 200 amp breaker for his relocation. The fuses I was referring to a few posts up are between my starter battery and DCDC charger, as well as the house battery and DCDC charger.

Giving it some consideration I'm adding one of these to hold a 250 amp fuse for the starter and the 40 amp I'm running to the DCDC charger. If you look close at my previous pic you can see the single fuse version on the positive battery terminal. A resettable circuit breaker would be nice but I like this form factor.

So the one you want to go thru is one post and two different amperage? I guess I’m not understanding because I’m not going to be running two batteries .I’m just relocating my starting battery to the passenger firewall

Yes. I'll set it up with a 40 amp fuse to the DCDC charger and a 250 amp fuse to protect the cable going to the starter.
