Nope and it seems to be a non-issue when properly installed.

We had it happen once in our 91 Mercury. Went into the gas station for soda came back out turned the key and boom. Sounded like a damn hand grenade and blasted battery acid all over the engine compartment. I would imagine this is very rare but I’m sure it’s happened but I’m sure it’s happened to others.

There are. The ex had a early 2000s Buick LeSabre and it had the battery under the rear seat. I was shocked.

AGM batteries are still valve regulated. They are sealed under normal conditions, but as they age and resistance increases they will likely outgas hydrogen. Even new ones can outgas if they are heavily discharged and then recharged from a non regulated current source(like the vehicle alternator) or heat is allowed to accumulate due to no ventilation. I'm not arguing that your install is going to result in a hazardous condition, as I would be surprised if the cabin is sealed well enough to allow a dangerous concentration of hydrogen to accumulate outside of a perfect scenario if unfavorable conditions, but being behind the seat with little airflow is likely to result in higher than ideal battery temps. Just thought it was worth mentioning that AGM batteries definitely give off hydrogen.

Yes, and they have sealed battery boxes with fresh air inlet and exhaust outlet in low pressure area of the vehicle.

No Auto manufacturer installs batteries inside the passenger compartment without proper battery box design and ventilation.

Key words, "properly installed". Slapping two batteries on a tray behind the seat is hardly an example of properly installed.

Yeah I’ve seen those it was on the rear passenger side. I don’t really remember any type of ventilation though it was just stuffed under there.

Yes it was. Crazy what some of these designers come up with.

It is your life no matter how short it may be. Do you know everything about how manufacturers design batteries inside a car? Bet not.

Its almost like you are the bot who always has to have the last say and thinks they are never wrong. Even when it has nothing to do with the subject in question. We can keep this up for years. But keep up the attempts to insult people you do not know

Somebody's jimmies are easily rustled! Besides, I'm wrong plenty, just not about this. I just don't insist that everyone knows it over and over and over. Weren't we all talking about the potential safety risks to mounting a battery in the cab, anyway? How does that not have anything to do with the..... Ohhhh, I see what you're doing here. Good try!

Yes your jimmies are easily rustled. Yes you are wrong about this. Guess you want to keep it up for a few more years. Yes we were until you decided to insult someone who does not agree with you. Why not try to get back on subject. By the way I worked with electricity and electronics for over 40 years and that included battery use. Get over yourself.

I was going to start a thread on this, but I’m glad I found yours. Seems like a logical location despite people’s concerns. How’s it holding up so far?

So far it's been great! No regrets!

I had flickering lights for a bit, but then my alternator crapped out. Replaced it and all the flickering went away, so I guess that was the problem all along haha.

To the guy who was talking about the batteries getting too hot behind the seat, they were in the engine bay before... Definitely way hotter in there.

I kinda checked out of this thread when all the arguing started, but yeah I'm still happy with it 3 years later.

I wish more people did it. It was a common mod when I had my 370z, as well as other hatchbacks. Nobody had any concerns and it was a cheap way to shift some weight around. I think as long as it’s mounted securely, it’s fine.

    @WormSquirts are you dead yet?

I like the idea of relocating the batteries, but apparently this will get you killed.
