Yeah I offroad and dd my Tacoma and have a abundance of accessories, winch ,amp , aftermarket hu , satellite radio, weboost cell phone booster , 3 sets of auxiliary lights , and use the stock inverter also another inverter. So definitely picking up a AGM battery tomorrow after work.

I take it your battery is corroding faster than usual? Battery corrosion is usually caused by gas and/or battery fluid escaping through the battery terminals. The cause can be a tired old battery, overcharging, or not venting the battery properly during charge cycles - charging warms up the battery fluid, causing it to expand. Those red and green felts help, as does coating the terminals with anti corrosion grease, and also regular cleaning. Or, get a new battery if battery fluid is leaking to the battery tray as it will eat through paint and metal.

When doing routine maintenance putting on a trickle charger a few times a year will do wonders for your battery life.

Replaced the battery in my wife's CX5 about 9 months ago. The platinum one from Advance Auto Parts. A few weeks ago I was changing the oil and noticed "blue fuzz" on my positive terminal. Also got onto the hold down bracket and started to go down the side of the battery. One of the caps was leaking. Not sure if it was from off gassing or an actually leaking from under the caps. Removed the cap. cleaned it up nice as well as the battery and reseated the cap on the battery. Disassembled the positive terminal and cleaned it up spotless in a baking soda slurry. Removed the hold down bracket and cleaned it up and repainted it. Cleaned everywhere else I could see the acid ran with the slurry then rinsed. Sprayed the terminal with terminal protectorate and will keep an eye on it. If it keeps doing it I'm returning it an putting an AGM in.

Yep, excessive corrosion means the battery is on its way out.

I guess you see this with ageing batteries (3+ years old) but if you're seeing it on newer batteries it's most likely leaking at the terminals. I've had two such batteries replaced under warranty with that issue. One, the OEM battery on my Gen 2 Tacoma @ about 1 year, and another on my wife's Camry @ 1.5~ years as I recall. Done by the dealership without quibble. If you're still under warranty and have such terminal corrosion issues, take it in.

Geez, i hope not to see any corrosion in 3 years, or even 5. I'm use to that stuff after 8 years. All my oem toyota batteries have been pretty good lasting at least that long.

When the Optima battery started in 1972. Off roaders discover this wonderful, powerful battery. It could be mounted anywhere, upside down if they wanted to. The abuse the off road vehicles went though, many batteries could not handle the tossing and bouncing. Very few seal batteries in those days. (AGM).

When you google the history of Optima battery. You will not find “Why Optima batteries “SUCK” at a period in time.. It had started to earn a bad reputation. A past and forgotten time.
It has change hands a few times. Today with new owners , it is a well design and well made battery today.

Did you do anything about charging voltage, or did you just roll with the 13.x the OEM alternator and ECU settings put's out? That's my only hesitation on getting an AGM battery.

The Highlander's with 200k miles on it is on its 3rd Toyota battery and this one I just took out has been in since 2014, I know amazing right! I just replaced it before we drove it on vacation last week.

Thank you about the Interstate 84 month battery. That is a 7 year battery.
Many ,many years ago Consumer Reports listed the Interstate as a Top brand battery to own.

I run only Interstate battery. Costco sells Interstate batteries, and I am so happy Costco carries them. There return policy is so awesome! Costco Interstate is only a 3 year warranty.

I just get the cheapest Battery I can at Costco or Wal-Mart. They usually have one of the better warranties.

Costco return policy is the best. I had a battery drain, 1 year old, Costco took it back and give two years of credit.
I still got two more battery return credits worth ($15 each). Hard for me to find dead batteries. Still on my Costco membership, unbelievable they keep records this long. Years!

Yeah like a 90 day warranty on there el-cheapo battery line. If you go that route, auto zone sells their econoline battery with a 1 year warranty. Imo, its better then the crapmart one.

A one year battery , if you got no money? Or selling the vehicle? A cheap save!

I always carry a battery jumper (Gooloo & Nico) , in the truck and car.

Walmart, 24F AGM 750cca; about $150-$160ish. Same battery Costco sells, but has a 4 year free replacement warranty instead of Costco's 3 year.
