2019 with factory battery. A parking attendant left the lights on a couple months ago and killed it deader than Kelsey's nuts. Had no issues after jump. Was preparing for a Sunday off road last week and noticed blue corrosion on positive terminal and struggled to start. not my DD... Replaced with 24F AGM. Drove home from the shop, a couple hours later won't start. Jumped and drove around for 30 min....same issue after a couple hours, dead. AutoZone says replace battery. No lights on dash. Took it back, they gave me a loaner battery (flooded) and are checking the AGM. Started fine, drove home, (10 miles half highway) dead again after a couple hours. Should I be looking at the charging system? Everything went to shit after the new AGM. I don't have any crazy loads, factory sound, nothing drawing increased load...35k miles....Ideas?

Have you tried to hook up a multi-meter and find out if you do have a parasitic draw on the trucks electrical system?

Guessing you have something running hot after key off.

What electrical accessories have been added? I'd start the hunt there.

Dead alternator maybe? Off road debris can kill alternators pretty quick...

Not yet....the battery has been flat dead. I'll drive it around and immediately hook up a meter to see what's going on. The only things I have are switched ditch lights and a bumper light bar. Everything else is what came from the factory. I guess I can start pulling fuses if I can get the thing charged up. Thanks

When the truck is running, I get 13.9v at the battery, I assumed this meant the alternator was working. I don't know much (obviously) am I wrong?

I would start with unplugging the lights. Wait the time period that the battery goes dead and try again. If it starts, one or both sets of lights are the issue. Next try plugging one set back in and wait and repeat. If it starts, you know which set of lights to go after.

AGM needs higher voltage to charge--14.4-14.8. Need to reprogram with Tune.

His first battery was OEM, then AGM, and now a flooded again. It's happening regardless of battery type.

How does that change the charging requirements of a AGM battery?

That said, I think that might be a subtle misunderstanding of the AGM battery requirements.

    https://www.centurybatteries.com.au...alk/issue-2-battery-talk-battery-charging.pdf

    “14.6 – 14.8V following deep cycle use, or 13.6V – 13.8V for standby use.”

Deep cycle use is when you run the battery charge down a significant amount, e.g. running a fishing motor off it. Deep cycle use is not typical for an automobile unless perhaps you are running a fridge while camping.

That wasn't my point at all, rather I was pointing out that it has happened to 3 different batteries hours after shutting the truck off. Therefore by the Op not adjusting their output voltage for their one AGM battery is not a contributing factor in this instance.

I understood what you were saying, but I still don’t see how it applies to charging specs of the battery in question. Also, you can’t assume there is only a single root cause. Often there is more than one.

I didn't mention any charging specs... And even if his voltage was 13.6V, which can be fine for an AGM battery depending on manufacturer, it wouldn't die a few hours after installation and shutting off the truck. I ran an AGM battery for two years on my 2017 Tacoma without any voltage adjustments from a tune.

Baking soda and water will dissolve any battery acid corrosion.

I would start with disconnecting the light bar and ditch lights to see if that's what's draining the battery. Definitely sounds like a parasitic draw or possibly a failing alternator to me.

Have you checked battery voltage with the engine running vs engine off? What about the alternator voltage? Have you checked for bad fuses/relays?

Gotta be. All the factory lights on the truck automatically turn off at the determined time set in the headunit.

    Stupid parking attendant!

I bet the 4th battery will be fine.

You quoted a post that stated the charging requirements of an AGM battery and nothing else, which at the time seemed like relevant information to me. Anyway, this is a kinda pointless conversation at this point.
