I would like to replace my battery soon. I've narrowed it down to the Sears DieHard Platinum battery.

Their website says that my truck needs a Group 35 size (http://www.sears.com/diehard-platin...p-02850035000P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1).

I am trying to avoid extending any wires, if possible. I also would like to use the factory battery mounting bracket, without modification. Can anyone provide feedback on how well this battery fits?

Weird, I never really looked but thought we would have a big 27f-1 or something.

Anyways battery doesn't really matter. There are only 2 battery companies and probably every battery you see in every different store is made by Johnson Controls.

Look for the best warranty and power

I moved mine from my 94 Landcruiser when I sold it. I thought the group 35 (P5) was a little narrow (front to back) so I placed a piece of trex deck as a spacer so the hold down bracket can prevent it from sliding front to back.

Other than that, I'm happy with it and was an easy change. BTW the factory one didn't have a handle and was a pain to lift out. The Platnium has a nice handle to lower it in.

I just saw TRUCKS on Power Block and they showed the Neverdie battery with a built in reserve. Pretty slick idea. Looked it up and it is expensive. Over $500. just wanted to throw that out.

    Awesome. Thanks guys.

I was considering the Optima Red or Yellow Tops, but I see a lot of poor reviews on them with regards to reliability in the the last few years. They are cheaper and I don't need anything fancy, but I'm looking for a reliable battery.

It looks like these DieHards go on sale couple times a year for 20-30% off. I will try to make my purchase then.

Great battery. I have it on my 2000 Tacoma. $215 including tax. Will buy again. Have it for 3 1/2 years now.

Exactly! Save some coin and look at the Duralast Gold Top from Autozone, also made by Johnson Controls. Great Warranty and there are Autozones everywhere should you need to exercise the warranty. Plenty of happy campers here that use them.

Just did the battery change this weekend at AdvanceAuto...Gold...~$125.00.
Good warranty with 700CCA and a battery test to make sure
the old was bad and a free install.

I was starting to get the Starter Relay chatter on occasion...all good now.

btw...the OEM battery size is Group 24....perfect fit.

Check a local Costco. Not sure on exact price but they give a small refund if you return the old battery.

I work at Advance so I can't second this ;)

Even though your alternator charges it, give your batteries a good full charge every 3 months and take them inside during the winter if you don't always drive. One of my co worker has multiple 10-15 year old batteries because he maintains them

I can support this purchase though! ;)

Every place does this, it's just a "core charge". They charge you if you don't turn it in, but cancel that out if you do. So you don't actually save anything. Best thing to do is pay the core, and if you live close to a junk yard take the battery there. Depending on weight a batter can fetch you $10-25 at a junk yard for scrap

Roger, any of the fresh, three year free replacement warranty batteries will be good choice for normal driving in Huntington Beach's climate, but it will need more preventive maintenance than a AGM battery. If you use the same BCI size that you currently have, then you will have not problem installing it. If you do extreme off-roading in the dessert, than a spiral wound AGM battery would be a better choice, but it might be more difficult to fit. Peter is correct that Johnson Controls is the largest lead-acid car battery manufacturer in North America, followed by Exide and East Penn, in that order. EnerSys is the largest deep cycle manufacturer.

For more information of replacement batteries, please see Section 7 in the Car and Deep Cycle Battery FAQ on www.batteryfaq.org.

Our harsh summers here in AZ are hard on batteries so I'd say a typical life is 2-3 years, sometimes longer. I'm right at three years on the gold top in my jeep but it doesn't get driven much and it has a battery tender attached to it all the time.

    heh...good call!

btw, i still had the OEM battery in mine that had the Grn/Yel/Red indicators
on it...When i had the battery test done, it was only able to get about
400CCA, but the indicator was still Green.

sooo....don't trust that indicator....get the battery tested properly.

Thanks for all the responses. I will check out the other recommendations as well.

I'm interested in AGM batteries because I do off road occasionally. However, I can purchase 2 regular batteries, almost 3, for the price of 1 new AGM. I will have to think about this a little more.

I went with an Optima Red Top Group 35 battery. I purchased it online at Advance Auto. They had a coupon deal where if you spend more than $100, you get a discount of $50. Hopefully this battery lasts a long time and perform better than the reviews on Amazon. If I have issues, Advance Auto will send me a box to ship the battery back to them for warranty (unlike what I read on Amazon's reviews).

When I first installed the battery, I found that the height was too short for the factory bracket to secure it. Then, I checked the packaging that came with the battery. I found that part of the packaging of the battery is actually a spacer that you can use to place beneath the battery to increase the height. After I realized this, I installed it and was able to secure the factory bracket.
