I run a Toyota TrueStart 27F and got the battery tray from a 2nd gen. Went in perfect, looks factory, bigger battery, more power, truck starts faster I think, maybe my 24F was losing it. The battery is made by Johnson Control and is a rebranded Interstate. Go for it, I have $38 in the tray and a $130 in the new battery.

CCA, weight, and size are the differences. Unless you are running a winch, lights, additional electrical load, etc. just replace it with a 24F is my suggestion.

Interstate in the proper size, or a tick up if that's your need, can be had at Costco for around $100

It should have a few more CCA's than stock but probably wont last any longer...so it depends what your definition of "better" is. No it won't fit without cutting your tray or buying a new try meant to hold a 27f. The hold down will still fit.

FWIW, I picked up a diehard 24F AGM from advanced auto parts. Replaced the interstate that was there since 2019.

    These posts are fantastic.

Get the energizer 12V. $12 at Target. Carry a spare in your truck.

In most cases 27F vs 24F make little difference if you opt for a good battery and don't have a ton of accessories like winches, and the like. You can go AGM which is great but you will need to do the monthly or so charging unless you modify your ECM to accommodate for the needed higher charging voltage. Not really a big deal. As strange as it might sound the WalMart Everstart 24F is around $120 and is very highly rated. I just put one in my Wife's Avalon.

Go to local independent auto part store. Ask the knowledgeable owner your question. Pay $10 more for his battery, which he will likely install for you and not have to deal with the core charge.

24F (smaller) typically has a higher CCA but lower reserve capacity.
The 27F (larger) typically has a lower CCA and higher reserve capacity.

My logic: Why spend money to buy the gas to drive around more battery weight than I really need.

    Short answer,

    It doesn’t matter.
Pick one, install it, and forget about it,

    ——————————————

    Long answer,

If your alternator is working properly.
You don’t live in Arctic conditions
And don’t run a lot of electronics without the truck running,

The cheaper one will be “better”.
    Better for you wallet anyway.

    —————————————————

FWIW, I went with the 27F in my truck.
Why? Because that’s what it came with:cool:

I owned/opperated a chain of auto parts stores for 16 years and purchased, sold, warranted literally thousands of auto/truck/equipment batteries and IMO there's not enough benefit from a group 27 battery to be worthwhile converting from a group 24.

I still have the original 24 in my '18 TRD sport which is almost 5 years old and I've received 5-7 years trouble-free service out of the 24s I used in my '96 Tacoma with 415,000 miles on it.

I carried Delco, Exide and Deka batteries in my auto parts store have had very little issues with any of the 3 brands.

Never had any battery crap out sooner than 3 years. I just replace them at 3 years and don't worry about it in all my cars.
