My '19 Taco has 25K miles. Recently I've been off in some pretty rutted and mogally areas. Lots of rocking and rolling. I noticed the top of the battery seems to be damp. I am guessing some acid leaked out there the caps with all the motion. I can see slight corrosion starting on the negative terminal (dampness hasn't migrated to + terminal yet). Its been in for service lately, dealer didn't flag it.

I am wondering if I should use a little baking soda mixture to wipe the top off and then clean up the negative terminal. Is there such a thing as a sealed battery so the this won't be a problem in the future?

My battery looks exactly the same. I’m curious myself. But not too worried about it as I plan to upgrade the battery soon since it’s been a couple years.

Optima batteries are AGM and sealed. I think the Red Top might be a better bet as it is 5 lb lighter than the Yellow top, for the Taco. if I'm going to be slamming around the ruts and moguls lighter is better.

Typical of the POS factory battery and that should barely last 2years. Dealer wouldn't replace it because it wasn't dead. I just went out and put a AGM battery. If you do a lot of camping you can stuff a group 31 in there with an adapter. Sadly optima batteries aren't what they use to be. Order online at Batteryplus and get 10-20% off coupon, and there is a $20 rebate. Get X2Power Premium AGM which has a 60 month full replacement warranty. It's built by northstar and is one of the best batteries you can buy. https://www.batteriesplus.com/produ...toyota/tacoma/2012/v6-4.0l-710cca/sli27fagmdp you need to lookup for your year to see if the size has changed.
Otherwise if you AAA, they will come to you and install the battery for free and their AGM is priced like other normal AGM's and you get a 6 year prorated warranty.

Despite having life still in the battery I installed a Duralast Platinum 24F-AGM. Its the Autozona house brand, but I am fine with it. It won't leak.

For those of you that went with the AGM batteries, how long have they lasted you? Have you had any issues with it not charging all the way and shortening the life of them? I’ve read a few threads where our stock trucks don’t put out the 14.x volts it needs to keep a AGM battery charged up. Seen a few threads where some have used trickle chargers and gone as far as adding a GM fuse that allows the ECU to send 14.x volts instead of the 13 volts for liquid acid batteries.

Yup. Mix some baking soda and water, spread it around and on the terminals also anywhere the acid spilled. Once it stops fizzing rinse it off and scrub the terminals and posts. To help keep corrosion at Bay in the future get those felt rings and some terminal protector spray.

I had the same problem and went with an agm from advanced Auto, been running good for about three years now.
