I’m having trouble with a parasitic draw on my battery (2022 TRD Off-road). The dealership tells me the roof has been replaced and it’s leaking into the cab. (This wasn’t on the CARFAX. ) The leaking caused a short in a fuse under the steering wheel, which is causing the parasitic draw.

They quoted me $9,000 to fix it, I told them to pound sand.

anyone know anything about this area? (under the blue fuse, you can see some corrosion).

    can I replace it?

    thanks.

Before replacing anything, I'd buy some electric contact cleaner and a small nylon brush and clean the crap out of everything. Then put everything back and see what happens.

How did the dealer know the roofs been repaired/replaced? Are there any other signs of leaking / water intrusion? How did you notice this draw? Did the dealer confirm the draw and confirm severity? thats alot of chasing and accusations (new roof and all) without evidence or with just signs of a fuse with some corrosion.

Electrical contact cleaner and make sure everythings clean. Wipe any codes, plug all back in and confirm alls good. I would highly doubt that corrosion on that fuse is causing a draw of any substantial matter that youd notice, if at all.

Isn't that a relay ? I'm far from an expert, but how bout replacing it after cleaning the contacts which really don't look that bad ?

Roof got replaced and it wasn't on the carfax? Is this the same dealer you purchased from? Even if it was just replaced due to something like hail damage, that's a huge thing to hide from the buyer.

Diagnostic to determine exactly what was the cause, replace wiring harness, replace carpets.
They suggested outsourcing to a body shop to seal the roof. That wasn’t factored into the $9000.

they are clearly inflating their cost. No way it costs $9,000 to do those three things.

Could be a relay, I’m not great with the electronics. That’s why I’m asking for suggestions.

This is what he showed me as justification that the roof was replaced. This is from under the drip molding on the roof. That’s not water, it’s apparently some sort of weld.

I got quoted $800+ to replace the $20 purge valve on the wife's Camry (about a 60 second job, literally)
Parts and labor, to be fair.. lol
Some dealers go for the home run, and if they can't knock it out of the park, they're not interested in playing the game at all.

I would get the part - clean as best you can - and plug it in. You already were able to remove it. No harm - just a possible fix if the relay is stuck.

This is not cool. I'd go back to the dealer and ask why you were not informed prior to the decision to buying this
without knowing about the previous damage. It's called disclosure - try selling a house with issues and don't advise
of disclosures about items and see what happens.

Going off memory here. That entire panel can be removed fairly easily. There are plugs in the back end that need to be un-plugged and whatever clips are holding it in place. See if you can find one at a yard or price the piece out and replace it with a new one.

I agree on cleaning that up and having a look around yourself. But you need to get the leak fixed first. I'd start with those open bolt holes for the roof rack. I'm pretty sure there are 5 each side and they were sealed up from the factory. Some silicon in them would probably do the job. Start there to see if it fixes the leak.

IMO, You need to resolve the roof leak first. The pic above showing the open screw holes under moulding is concerning to me. I would think they need to be sealed (I dont know what an OE roof looks like there). The fuse panel probably just needs a good corrosion cleaning after that. The wiring harness is likely just fine.
