BBQ joints in greater bay area?

Not really a BBQ joint, but anyone familiar with "Fred's Marinated Steak" from Schaub's in Palo Alto? Growing up it was a staple in our house for special occasions.

 

In San Jose: South Winchester BBQ. Same owner has another in Morgan Hill too but don't know the name (and in Aptos and Santa Cruz).

 

If you're ever in the Pittsburg area check out Dad's BBQ in downtown Pittsburg. The tri tip & sauce is on point!

 

Back a Yard BBQ in Menlo Park. Crazy good. Only problem is fighting off the Faceplant hipster employees during the lunch rush...

 

Gerry's Grill in Union City, good tasting Pinoy style Bbq, been there only once but i might hit it up again with the wife after christmas.

 

i have yet to find any bbq place in CA that's as good as ones in Texas, but i do have to say smoking pig and Sam's BBQ (both in san jose) are pretty good.

 

Tank House in Sacramento has been my go to recently.

 

There arent really good spots to chose from. There are some that are ok. I'm originally from Raleigh, NC, so if you are going to bench mark CA BBQ against North Carolina, Memphis or Texas and other parts of the south. No comparision, I have been dissapointed a few times thinking they would be the same.

Hog Wild BBQ in Placerville is pretty good. Non-chain Mom & Pop operation serving texas style BBQ.

Phatt Matts in Oakland has great brisket, ribs, and tri-tip. Good corn bread, as well.

 

Brewsers in Petaluma, 4505 Meats in SF, Kinders all over the east bay.

 

4505 Meats in SF is good. We used to provide their pest control service... Cant say for the quality anymore...

 

Misson St,BBQ in Santa is good, pricey though! Awesome beer selection as well!

Kinders Is good at their many locations.

Carmens and Family in San Leandro is better than Everett and Jones but a little pricy and divey.

My favorite brisket lately is Sons of Liberty in San Leandro. Big plates, great beer and the sauce is bomb.

Smoking Pig isn't bad, they sell burnt ends.

Though, I sometimes think some of our members here should just open their own BBQ joints instead.

 

Smoking Pig in Fremont. I haven't had better BBQ. I guess they're the only Michelin recommended BBQ place in the bay.

 

BudMan says "Everett and Jones is better than average but not incredible..."

Lots of people know BBQ better than I, but I effing LOVE Everett and Jones.
