    Hello,

I'm kind of torn between a few options regarding the BDS 6" lift, new wheels, and tires.

The lift kit I'm looking at is the BDS 820F 6" Coil-Over Suspension Lift Kit from Liftkits4less.com, SKU: BDS-820F
They said the kit would work perfectly with the stock upper control arms, however there is an option to add a "Tacoma Upper Control Arm (UCA) Kit for +699.01.

What is recommended? To purchase it for that price, source a better recommended UCA for cheaper, or perhaps even just stick with the stock UCA?

Next, in the kit description it also states that the kit can not be used with 17" wheels.
Can I not use ANY 17" wheels, or just not the stock +25mm offset's?

The Max backspacing for this lift kit is 4.5" (-44mm offset), so I'm limited on choosing wheels with a -44mm to -51mm offset.
Can I use 15", 16" wheels with the correct offset and run 35x12.5's?

I'm seeing a lot of 20x12 wheels, but i'd like to know what my ranges are with this kit as I'm looking for a durable, light weight, off road wheel, that will work for both all terrain, and mud scenarios. Looking at wheel+tires at customoffset.com website for either 33's or 35's.

I'm looking for recommendations because I'd like to purchase the lift kit, tires, and wheels at the same time. I'd like to do it right the first time, and not deal with fitment issues considering the overall price-tag.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Buddy has this lift on his 18 Tacoma with SCS 17” rims and doesn’t have a problem running 33” tires

I'm just wanting to really make sure it gets done right in one shot. The delay in shipping because of this COVID thing has caused a nightmare for the carrier services.

I'm really loving those Ray 10's by SCS....

@50TH STATE - would you happen to have any pictures of your buddies lift by chance?

I’m pretty sure it’s the backspacing of the factory wheels is the problem as to why they are saying you can’t use 17” wheels. As for the uca did they mention what brand? For that price I would just order camburg uniball UCLA’s with the new cap.

    well... that's lifted :D

I'll dig around a little more, hopefully others will chime in i'd like to stick with 18's over 20's to have more tire than rim. Are there any other recommended wheel+tire vendors people purchase from that I may take a look at and compare?

FYI can’t run 15” wheel. Front brakes too big.

Thank you for the clarification on that!! I was looking up specs to see why there aren't many rolling on 15's. This narrows it down a little more!

You are aware that this lift kit is going to destroy offroad performance, and be extremely hard to undo, right?

I'm researching as much as I can - and maybe my sources have informed me with incorrect information (there job is to sell the products).. - Can you explain why it would, and what you'd recommend by chance?

It cuts out the factory crossmembers and bolts in new ones. It's known as a drop bracket lift kit. The only way to revert from these is to hire a welder to weld the crossmembers back in.

As to performance, they weld in steering stops which increases your turn radius, these trucks are already at the upper limit of maneuverability for a lot of trails. It lowers the front diff which can also cause problems, you can look that up on this site where people have had full 3/16 or 1/4" skid plates with a diff drop installed and ended up destroying the diffs.

The recommendation is to go with a true 2-3" suspension lift and leave it at that. Bigger tires will simply require cutting plastic/tubbing the firewall, a cab mount chop, and/or a body lift.

I was aware of the difficulties in reverting it back, which most people tend not to. I can only guess that its going to cost an arm and a leg.

The dif drop I understand, but doesn't the lift counter that? I was way off in my understanding of it thinking it'd be plenty of leeway for off road if thats not the case!

not looking to replace a dif any time soon, so your comment has me re-thinking the whole project now..

Also I read recently that the trd off road already has a 1in lift factory, so a true 3 in lift would only gain us 2 more inches, is this fact?

Roughly, most higher end coilovers are adjustable. I run just shy of 3" true lift with mine.

I'd suggest practicing patience and doing more research. If you want a monster truck to drive around town, this will do the trick. If you want to improve off road performance, pick a good 2"-3" lift.

I'm not as familiar with suspension lifts & body lifts as some of the others on here and only know 2 reuputable brands, them being pro comp and bds. as far as coil overs go, I'm not familiar all with.

are there any complete kits or seperate kits that are recommended for 33's or 35's. I need to do some more homework and comparisons it looks like.

King, Icon, ADS, Fox are all reputable high end adjustable coilovers. I personally run ADS with OME leafs. As I run 255/85r16 (skinny 33s) I didn't even need a cab mount chop. I've got my coilovers cranked down pretty hard because of the weight I have up front though.

35s will be significantly more work. There are threads on here that detail it.

Patience I do have a lot of - It's been quite a while since I've looked into the off road options, as its been nearly 10 years since my previous Tacoma was murdered and ransacked by thieves after I relocated.

The intention with the build I'm looking for is overland + off road trails with other taco's and groups of friends. A show like monster truck would be suitable but not the for my purposes.
