Super crazy. What’s even crazier is I’ve heard of this happening before. Can’t fully recall, but I think it was my ex’s father or uncle. Remember hearing how they got a phone call that someone got arrested and needed bailed out. Someone in the family got put in the drunk tank or something. Got release a few hours later. No bail needed. Can’t remember all the details or how they figured it all out.

I’ll just never forget the time I was carrying in some groceries and some guy was screaming at me. I was about to blow the guy off but decided to see what he wanted. Of course he comes up and give me some story how he needs $20 for a cab ride to a hospital to see his kid. I had a bad feeling about the matter but having a kid too, I just had a bit of a soft spot. Asked him to show me a picture of his kid. He opens his wallet and shows me a picture. Believe he had two. Anyways long story short, a couple weeks later at a family get together I’m telling the story and my ex’s father said the same thing happened to him a few weeks back. Guy was just some druggie using the story to collect money. Happened to him and a buddy of his. I guess someone called the police on him and he got caught and that’s how they found out he was doing it for drug money. Sick people man.

More so than spam email, I'm now getting massive amounts of robo-calls to my cell phone. I constantly block the number, but they always use a different one. I know you can set up a white list, but for someone who uses their cell phone for business, it's not that practical to go this route.

The ones with spelling and grammatical errors are quite often for a reason.

Most people will be tipped off immediately that it's a scam and not bother. The scammers know that if you didn't see any of the obvious signals of a scam that you are more likely to fall for it.

Holy shit is the scammers taking it to a next level.

I get texts saying thank you for paying your at+t bill and here is a reward with a link.

My wife’s moron father in law got that Bank of America crap, doesn’t even have an account with Bank of America but gave them a butt load of info.

ProtonMail is the way to go. Encrypted, secure, the only info needed to set up is a phone number or other way they can contact you to verify you are a human. That is 1 time and only 1 piece of info. Then you get their email address. Mine ends @pm.me. I also run a VPN on all my crap and have dark web monitoring after mine and my wife’s name started showing up. Our AOL account started showing up with attempts to break in using passwords close to ours.

Now we have our ADT alarm wireless, no home phone, opt out all credit bureaus, proton emails only, wife has Facebook only set on private, and I went to as many of those people finder websites as I could to opt out. Look up you name on Intelius.com. They practically give away your whole life if you don’t opt out

When I get a scam call asking for information I say “I’m going to need your name and your personal credit card number to verify you first”. They stammer around a few seconds all confused and then hang up lol

Yep I get those too. Always report/forward to ATT spam number (7726). Not sure if they actually do anything, but just in case they do I like to submit them and the senders number/email address

Back during stay-at-home orders (COVID), I took a call just for fun. Instead of letting the guy talk, I told him that someone from his company accidentally wired me $100k the previous day and I didn't know what to do with it. He told me to immediately go to the nearest Walmart and send it to him using western union and if I did so within the next hour, he would NOT call the FBI on me. He said he would call me back in 1 hour to confirm when he got the money and that I had better have sent it to him or else I'd be in BIG trouble with the FBI.

It's just as bad as those calls I'd get that my factory car warranty is about to expire... I _had_ a 2006 Ford I bought new. I was ready to press "1" and actually talk to them and ask who was underwriting a 15 year / 150,000 mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, because I'd like to put in some claims for some work I had done in the past which I thought was out-of-warranty work....

When I get those at work, I answer in my "old lady" voice. I tell them the car is a 1954 Hudson Hornet, and go into ramble-on mode. They usually hang up on me after a minute or two.

You can thank unlimited talk and text for this.

If the robots were required to pay 10 cents per connected call (whatever message rate service was back in the day....), they'd surely stop. It would get expensive very fast.

    Oh my!

Good Morning my friend. I represent the group of web criminals in Iran. I use this mail address because we think that you will check it. Few times ago my team put the virus on web-site with porn and as far as you clicked on a play button your system started shooting your screen and activating camera to capture you self-abusing. Eventually I mean you understand what compromising evidence Ive earned. Moreover, this software made your device act as dedicated server with plenty of functions like keylogger, parser etc. To sum up, my software picked all data, especially all your contacts from messengers, e-mails, social networks. If you wanna make me silent you must make a transaction of 260 dollars with bitcoin. 1K2auXQEKz7Ro8cRa2xr3bAPV2n6KT5vi1 You must use it as usual credit card number. If you send bitcoins nobody will see your shame. Watch youtube manuals about methods of buing BTC... I can offer you this exchanger: localbitoins.com. If you have a problem with this, you can search comfortable ATM for bitcoin at coin atm radar. I give you no more than twenty four hours since you read our message to pay. You can complain cops, but they can not find us I use bot network, and of course we live abroad. If you want us to show proofs we will share it to seven mates from your data after that you will be given their contacts. So you will ask them if something strange was received about you. For some questions just reply. Dont be fullish, AmAZinGcRackeR$.”
