Hey all! Brand spankin new here and am looking for some direction on my tacoma ext cab build. A little about my truck:

It has been passed down to me by my grandfather who has passed away. Everything on it is stock. I am starting from scratch. It currently has 42k miles on it so I am going to have it for quite some time. I have noticed the suspension is a little subpar especially when hitting some bunps on the road and the truck giving off a loud clunk explosion sound. Sooooo...first on the list is 5100s all around and aal for an extra 1.5.

My main question isnt really about the install, but where am I going to find the cheapest prices for these parts? I am excited to start this journey!

Thanks man! I have a lot of work to do still. Small things first though. Gonna remove the flares and restore them to a nice crispy black again in the next couple days. Then the 5100 to get some height and then some tires!

There are several vendors on this site that offer member discounts. I got my 5100's from douwnsouthmotorsports for 299 for all 4 shocks, but last I heard they've discontinued that offer... Most people are selling 4 shocks for $350ish. If you're patient, you can find sales, but honestly, $350 for 4 5100s is still a good price...

Reviving the thread! I did quite a bit so I will run a recap and then try to keep the thread a little more active.

So to start off...I got into an accident...that slowed me down. I spent a pretty penny to get the truck fixed since it holds sentimental value to me (it was my grandfathers truck). Once I got that fixed, I jumped right into the front end suspension. I ended up going with 5100s with OME 881 coils in the front. It was RUSTED...PITA of an install. Took a before and after of the madness.

Nice truck! Wish you the best on your journey.

Once you pop, you can’t stop. Literally, these mods are like a domino affect.

Next up I got new tires and wheels. Ended up getting 265/75/16 Falken WildPeaks on Pro Comp wheels. I got two wheels shipped that were pretty badly bent. 4 Wheel Parts customer service was nothing but amazing in getting me new wheels and threw in some free goodies. I had spacers on which gave me some serious rubbing...had to get rid of the spacers and that solved my issue.

Then along came the 5100s in the rear as well as the OME Dakars. Once again...PTA...I should just rename the thread 'PITA'. I got all new hardware, and cut EVERYTHING out of the truck since it was so rusted (I learned from doing the front end...). So new greasable shackles, new leafs, new lower shock assembly, new bolts, etc. Loctite everything, anti-seize everything and prep for the future. I wire wheeled everything and POR-15'd the rear end (not all of it yet). I am getting some of the frame welded/patched with safetcaps soon so I didnt touch those areas yet.

Next i have excitement, and boring things. As for the excitement, You can already see the bed bars, and I am getting my RTT delivered by the end of this month...it has been on back order for the past 2 months

As far as the more boring aspects go...replacing the fuel tank next since that is the last thing that is rusted on the truck....for now lol

Went on a beach trip this weekend! Also got the roof top tent from 4 wheel parts finally! It was on back order for 2 months. Overall their communication during the back ordered period was great. Thinking about installing on board air next. Any suggestions? Where are you guys mounting it? Thanks!

Thanks man. It suffers from the rust issue for sure, which makes working on it much more brutal. I am going to be bringing it to Rhode Island soon to Auto Rust Technicians and they will be sandblasting, and welding a cap on the frame. Not the most exciting thing to do, but it kind of is at the same time. It is going to be so nice having a clean under body.
