Just an update. Pushed the traction button and held it today and it disables a bunch of stuff. Seems to help on beach even more. So, one short push disables Trac, and that light comes on dash, one push for about 3 seconds turns Trac off and also VSC and the radar collision avoidance thing

I drive on the beach in 3rd gear. Monitor the auto transmission temps with scangauge II.

I get 2 trans temps. One for the pan and one for the torque converter. The pan temp is always lower ~210f max. Seen upto 285f at the converter.

I rode 4HI with everything else left alone on street tires on Padre Island National Seashore. It was a cinch through the soft sand. Just maintain momentum. I did not even air down my tires.

I found them. Nm. Will see if I programmed both or not. I am using the pan temp I think. Which is most accurate or most important?

It's driving on a beach. Air down, 4h, keep up momentum, bring recovery tools in case you hit sand that gets ya stuck. Go watch some Ronny Dahl vids or something.

How does it drive differently once you've messed with the buttons? I've messed around with the VSC and A-trac on my '17 4Runner before and honestly haven't really noticed much of a difference (but on rocks/dirt, not sand), which is partly why I was suggesting earlier to stay away from the buttons to begin with.

Incidentally, I've seen up to about 230 in my 4.0L 4Runner towing a 4k# trailer up a ~10% grade in 1st gear. That was rough, lol, but the warning lights never came on. I have Torque Pro so I can't help with codes, I doubt it's the same as the scangauge, but maybe?

The pan temp is more of an average of all your trans fluid. The converter temp will be the highest, it give me a warning to take it easy.

The only replies you received about your VSC button question consisted of "air down", and "don't push buttons, just air down".

You'd mentioned more than once that you air down, and are familiar with driving on sand. And people STILL replied "just air down".

So my (highly sarcastic) multi-step post about how to drive in sand (where the first two steps were to air down, and the last step was to just stay on dry pavement) was not directed at you, and I assumed you would have caught that.

This was my last attempt to say "Sorry no one has answered your original question, I will try out the buttons myself and PM you".

Again with the sarcasm, but it was directed at those NOT ANSWERING YOUR QUESTION. I was literally going to PM you with whatever useful information I found/experienced.

I aired down to 20lbs, wildpeaks, and stayed in 4hi,no buttons pushed, and I had zero issues. I still am curious about pushing buttons or not. I only turned it all off once to spin some circles, hahah.
