This is for the guys that experience those nasty winters where salt is everywhere. What's the best CHEAP treatment you guys do to prevent that nasty salt buildup on your truck which can cause rust. Of course besides hosing off your frame when its 33+* outside! Want this truck to last a while!

I use "Fluid Film." It's a waxy lanolin material that doesn't harden. Supposedly, stops rust on contact and won't harm rubber. Many on here use it and approve. Some do not care for the smell though. I don't mind it myself. Lowes sells it and you can buy it on line.hthIMG_0956.jpg

Any warranty issues with using something like this?

I can imagine Toyota refusing to warranty the frame against rust damage if they found out you were using something on the frame. "The stuff you put on there broke down our rust proofing which caused your issue."

Then in that case, the dealers trying to sell you the rustproof package when you buy the truck shouldn't be allowed to offer it.. .

For 05 - 08 trucks there was a frame corrosion campaign that just ended a month ago. Right in the letter, they say to submit receipts and paperwork for prior rust repairs for reimbursement. I sent my Krown receipts and still waiting for refund. Based on that, something that washes off eventually anyway such as Krown or Fluid Film products you should not have any issues. Some extensive frame repairs may be a different story.

    I have factory anti-corrosion for 10 years.

I havent had a vehicle affected by rust so badly though in a 10 year span anyway. I have cars 20 years old that have only superficial drivetrain rust. That said i find products like this a waste of money, but my opinion.

Fluid film 2X per year, I had mine rustproofed and still sprayed it with FF. Do a search on the site for some great articles on it. I use both the cans with the wand a I bought the spray gun. Takes about an hour to do a full/mid size. Cheap insurance. The smell is not that bad, I get a little smoke as it burns off the exhaust but the odor fades in a day or two.

Joe, where do you live? That would help in understanding your comment. If in AZ or TX, I'd likely agree with you, But us "Northeners" have a real fight with salt and rust..!:canada:
OH, and what is "factory anti-corrosion". Never heard of that.

Virginia DC area. I suppose its not truly "factory" as its not toyota. The dealer used a 3rd party to apply anti-corrosion.

Yeah, OK... that makes sense man. I know Toyota never treated my 2006 Taco, but I did with Corrosion Free... it was the only '06 in our area, that was traded in 10 years later with a 100% good frame.... Most were lying on the side of the road or got replaced..

    +1 for Krown.
Had it done on my past two cars as well and my parents do it on their forester. Just had it done on the taco as soon as I picked it up as well.

Going to get under it and do the krylon this summer

You'll like that paint. A buddy who owns a body shop turned me on to it. Light coats dry in 10 minutes.

wondering if I could use it for my sliders
Opted to not have them powdercoated as suggested by the shop I got them from. Since if the powdercoat gets damaged you can't really touch it up. So need to find a strong paint to use, also going to linex some it.
