Could be what Toyota Belleville tried to sell me. The dealer has it sprayed with Krown or Ziebart by a jobber, then they install some sort of little electric box/module and charge you $1495.00 for 10 year 'RUST THROUGH' protection.

The business manager effed up and checked off all the boxes after I refused the up-sells at our sit down:

    - paint protect $1100
    - rust protect $1500
    - leather protect $1000
    - 7 year/160000 km warranty (already negotiated into the deal) $2200

So service had it all done.

Service tried to collect the rust protect money when I went to pick up the truck. I refused to pay, as the truck was already in my name. Then they tried to collect $220 for the electronic module. I was already pissed, since they had me wait from 8:00 am until noon to change the tires from my trade in onto the new truck. They had a week to do that. I laughed and told them that anything that is bolted to my truck is mine, it is now noon, and service is closed. I'm not coming back the 48 kms for this issue either. I wished them a nice day.

Six months later I get a call from the NEW business manager who asks me to come in and sign the warranty(s) paperwork. I ended up getting all of the above for free and a 7 year/160000 km Platinum Warranty for free as well.

I've used the leather protect to get a new driver's leather seat.

The anti-rust module is sitting in a box in my garage. It works great. I have no rust.

Don't Linex, it's too damn expensive. I tried a similar two-step epoxy liner (Apollo bed liner) and that was garbage too. It was supposed to be a DOM application. I had to sand blast all that crap off of my sliders as it started to peel. I then used grey primer and EZ Liner rattle can bed liner. $10 a can at Cambodian Tire. Easy to touch up and blend in, dries fast.

I have been using Amsoil Heavy Duty Metal Protector in aerosol spray cans. I like the fact that this wax like coating drys and doesn't attract dust and dirt. I spray the undercarriage at the begining of each winter.

I also use silicone spray on my shocks and coilovers after each washing, usually once every other week.

This is my third winter using the Amsoil product and my truck is rust free.

I use CRC Brand Heavy Duty Corrosion Inhibitor, it is a waxy type spray and I have used on my past 2 Tacoma's with no frame rust. The downside of it is that it smells terrible for a couple weeks after you spray it.

And you sir are using Google keyboard on your phone hahaha. Always puts Canadian tire as Cambodian for some reason.

Actually used line x as a general term but ya they rattle can stuff from crappy tire is what I was planning to use on top of some rust paint. Just want something for more texture for grip when using as a step and can take some abuse.

Nope, I type Cambodian on purpose.

... and it's better if you prime, then texture with EZ Liner, and finally seal with semi-gloss paint.

I feel your pain, man. My 2014 4Runner was a PA truck, bought used when I still lived in OH. Not even 2 years later, the underside looked like every other Toyota older than 4 months roaming around the state - rusty as fuck.

When we moved to Cali, I couldn't believe how rust free everything was. I'd be sitting at a stop light behind a 20 year old Toyota truck and the underside was immaculate, meanwhile my truck was dropping chunks of rust scale on the ground.

I traded it in recently and got a brand new Taco, since it's a west coast truck, I anticipate it being rust free for a long time.

This doesn't help you in the least. Unless you move!

    Any specific primer you'd recommend?

I know a lot of people on here don't recomend it but I still undercoat my trucks. I've lived in Northeastern NC for 34 years, I'm maybe 1/8 of a mile off the oceanfront, drive on the beach frequently, and get killed with salt air. In all that time and with all the vehicles I've owned, none have had rust. I spray paint all the non-coated metal several times a year with black Rustoleum paint. If the undercoating does get scrapped off you can buy cans of it at Lowe's or Home Depot. I also spray off the underneath of the truck with a spray hose everytime I take it out on the beach. Just about everyone in my area uses undercoating, I personally don't know anyone who doesn't.

My garage is finally clean, so for the first time in 34 years I can protect my truck from the elements. In the past they have all been outside unprotected.

I've never used any of the other products spoken about so I can't offer any comparisons.

Krown for my truck. I have just the chassis sprayed spring and fall as well as buy a can of the Krown spray and spritz it in the doors, rockers and tailgate myself. Parts of the frame that have the finish worn off by gravel get a smear of grease to keep the rust localized to the wear area.

I spray this on once a year in the fall after a good undercarriage powerwashing. I have almost no rust for a 5 year old truck.

+1 for Fluid Film. Bought it in a one gallon size and a cheap $20 "undercoating" gun on eBay.

Another fluid film guy here, but I also use Eastwoods internal frame coating. It comes with a little hose with a 360 degree spray nozzle for treating and preventing rust in the boxed in frame sections. I clean the truck underside real good, do the Eastwood stuff, then fluid film. Pretty cheap and easy in my opinion. I don't mind the smell it goes away quick anyway as has been said.
