I think the idea is to flatten the whole pinch weld so you get as much clearance as possible... if you're gonna do it you might as well do the whole thing and there is no reason you couldn't do it beforehand.

Right on thanks @Crom didn't know if it was one of those things where knowing where tire was hitting helped. Taking out entire plastic liner probably is best? Ive seen a few pictures where it was peeled off to the side to get to the work area

Welcome. I pushed the plastic liner over the wheel to hold it out of the way. I wanted to keep it. then put it back after beat down. reformed plastic liner to make flat with heat gun.

It's an easy job. it will all make sense when you look at it.

I say go for it now. I was out the other weekend and tore off my side lugs off my tires while stuffed and turning and now i dont know if i need to buy another tire or not. Only wish i would have done this earlier.

Same thing happened to someone else who waited to do the CMC and pinch weld. Ended up having to buy a whole new set of tires, which is why I always tell ANYONE going to 285s to do these things. It's not that hard and can save you a headache.

Yea i feel pretty lucky. Only part of the tire was affected and only the big lugs were cut. Nothing into the actual sidewall.

How'd you get your fender lining so smashed on? I took my heat gun and it was so slow to do anything

I'm using rtv silicon stuff to seal my pinch weld, should that work?

Well tried hammering it with tire on and couldn't get it flat

Oh and when I pulled the liner out of the way those dam rivets won't go back so now it's just hanging loose. Can I just pull it out?

What all should I use to seal it? I tried a few things that aren't doing the best and are easily removed

I used Bondo rubberized undercoating spray. Did you break through the sheetmetal to cause a leak? If you do not have liners in, mud and dirty water will get all over the place in your engine bay.

Oh, I don't know how you can mend that back. My liners have been gone for a while so I kind of forgot how they look.

So is everyone removing their fender liners then smashing the pinch weld and then reinstalling the fender liners. Or are you all just leaving fender liners off when done and using something else to seal it with. If you do reinstall fender liners how are you doing it?

if you are careful enough not to damage the liner when you pull it off, you can pinch out the old clips and reattach them. if not they are pretty cheap on Amazon
