I like it! Good pickup OP and thanks for the info. Now that it seems dealers are making this kit available to owners without any huge ordeals I'm much more inclined to purchase a regular TRD OR truck and do the swap myself to get the slight lift and more robust shock setup, as opposed to shelling out an additional $4-5k on a Baja. Money like that can go towards a S/C or other mods.

    Grats on the shocks.

Some of you here, all I can think of is some 5 yr. olds always screaming "Do what I do!".

Haters, at $30k +/- average Tacoma cost + mods afterwards, any one of us could've built a more capable older land cruiser or older Toyo pickup for $20k or less, so why gripe at him for not buying the exact same setup as you did, sorry he didn't stroke your egos.

Brandon shouldn't get so much heat for simply trying things a bit different.

I'm not anticipating having any warranty at all, so no surprises here.

I'm thinking since Toyota isn't supposed to sell the kit like that, it will not be covered under warranty when they see it. The dealer will pitch some bull shit about how that suspension isn't supposed to be on that truck anyways. OP, I wouldn't get your hopes up about no vibes, a lot of the Baja guys are reporting vibes just like normal guys...

Mad props OP I would agree with your decision to purchase this setup regardless of price. The shocks are obviously beefier than a 5100 and have no doubt they will out perform them. The only addition I would make is a good UCA to get full benefit of your front shocks. So in a nut shell GOOD JOB OP!

Thanks man. I have light racing uca's for now, but they should do everything I need them to do.

It's funny that everyone says the 5160s aren't designed for lifted applications, but as you saw in the pic, they're longer than the 5100s.;)

You have the OEM replacement 5100's... The other 5100's can handle 3-4" and work with Dakar and AP Leaf packs. So don't icons and kings and walker Evans...

The toytec ulk comes with the extended length 5100s (supposed to be what I have on the truck), but I bet you're right and I was given the wrong shocks from Toytec

I only have the rears on right now, I was going to wait to comment on the ride until I had the fronts installed and put some miles on it.

The 3rd column gives the rear lift height. Notice how the 5100 and 5160's are both 0-1", but the pic shows the 5160 significantly longer.

Longer shock =/= Longer stroke. This is why detailed info from the mfg is important. Though the shock may have a longer extended length, depending on how the internals are constructed, one may top it out and blow the lid off during full compression if the suspension is not correctly limited in that direction (i.e. bumpstop height).
