Exactly! All over is just another term for a full paint job. It was. I was a combo guy for a few years(meaning paint and body work) last 5 years though I was just basically in the booth painting or running the team. Now I'm a technical rep for a paint distributor. I basically just go to the different shops and help them if they have any problems or need help training their guys.

Sounds good, will do for sure!

I do the same really. I usually go in the shops and keep my mouth quite. by the time I get to know the guys at the shops good I end up learning from them just as much as they learn from me so it's good. Definitely a gratifying job so far.

Appreciate the shout! Out of curiousity, do you tend to use a certain brand when it comes to paint guns?

If I had a son or daughter that told me they wanted to do paint or body work I'd kick them rt square in the ass. If you want to learn hobby wise that's ok but as a profession nope. Ben is the smart one to limit his exsposure while he's still fairly young. Don't let yourself get like me. This job takes a toll on your body and your health

I tend to use Sata and Iwata mostly. I do love the devilbis tekna guns. I'm a gun whore. I've gone through a bunch and kind of collect them some. Lol

Chris is right, I will do the same to my kids if they try to follow my footsteps. It's not a bad gig but all in all it will tear you up inside. I've been lucky enough to be young and around at the right time when all of these nice new fresh air systems came out so I tend to lean towards new technology. Especially after seeing what the guys I learned from look like now after 30+ years of it.

I def have seen some guys who have done the business for a long time back in the day and you are right it will eat you up. I think now a days guys might be a little safer, but its def a toxic environment in the long run to be in. I will say this though, it is pretty cool to master the mystery of painting. I have only used the cheap $14 respirator from home depot when I did my old projects, is that generally safe for small applications?

Umm not sure. As long as it's a vapor mask and not just dust you should be ok. I tend to wear a 3m vapor respirator which is the normal mask with the large oblong cartridges on each side. A normal partical mask isn't really enough for anything besides dust. Vapors can still make their way in.

I see it now. Yep that's what I was talking about. Perfectly fine for smaller projects. I use it often when I'm doing body work, priming.

I don't know who mentioned my name in comparison to your beard but I am a hairless baby by comparison (in beard and age no less)

out of 30 years of painting i've only had fresh air for about 7 of them we don't even have it where i work now. it's rediculous that they don't and i've asked. my painting is a different focus than yours has been being primarily industrial applications. i do paint vehicles but not as many od them as large equipment. a typical paint job is 5-6 gallons un mixed. i have very little sense of smell, bad knees, hips, shoulders, and horrible back. i'm self tought and even with all the years of service i can't get a job in a regular body shop, go figure
