Cool! I just watched a couple of YouTube videos on it, and somehow went down a rabbit hole and ended up watching some girl play heavy metal on her guitar - sounded freaking awesome, but then realized I had no idea how I got there!! YouTube should not be used unless under direct parental supervision.

Question, I know the common answer is it varies, but I got a speeding ticket today for going 70 in a 55. How much can I expect the fine to be?

200-300 if I remember correctly I got almost the same ticket on 208 hahaha

Not exactly Taco related, but last night my son successfully completed his Eagle Scout Board of Review!!

 

Al's Custom Collision in King George did a good job fixing my truck last year when a tree fell on it.

I paid $90-100 in Westmoreland county last year. Go to court to see if you can do a defensive driving class or get it knocked down to a non-moving violation to avoid points on your license.

 

Unless things have changed in the last few years, if the violation was written under the state code (46.2-870) for simple speeding or an equivalent local ordinance which mirrors the state code, the fine will be $5 per mile over the speed limit and court costs of approximately $64.

Not sure if doing driving school on your own would help. Sometimes showing up to court with the driving school certificate will give the judge the opportunity to dismiss the ticket with court costs but that depends on the judge. It's a useful thing to do if you get Reckless Driving as it will often get you dropped down into the simple Speeding category. Also your command may like your pro-active approach if you take the driving school. Not sure about that one though.

 

^^^This is also true. Showing up to court already having taken the class often puts you in a favourable light with the judge, but it's always a roll of the dice.

I never do the course before hand. I always request it as a court ordered penalty to avoid the points/the ticket on my record. However, all of my experiences are from tickets in TX when I was a teenager. In TX, I didn't even have to go to court. You just sent a letter to the judge pleading no contest and requested defensive driving. As long as it had been a year or more since the last class you were good to go. Where I was in NM didn't offer defensive driving, so you went to court and requested deferred adjudication (aka probation) which lasted 3-12 months at the judge's discretion.

 

you can also take it to a shop and have your speedometer calibrated. If it's reading slower than your actual speed, that could help your defense.

Calibration, Defensive Driving Course (prior to court date), and hiring a lawyer. Yes a lawyer may seem like overkill, but my buddy did this and had it severely reduced in overall fine and zero points to his license as long as he completed the DDC and did not have any infractions for one year. That was for North Carolina, so not sure if same rules apply, but I wouldn't mess around with it.
