Yep, only person I like up there is 1 salesman (his name is Saige). He is the one that sold us the 4runner. I've gotten in to it with their service and parts department and the other salespeople are either to "important" to speak with me or shady as hell when they approach me.

 

And to a lot of others.

"Tactical Panda", if you haven't figured out, is the name given to my truck. When I first brought it home from the dealership in 2017, my wife took one look at it and its black and white motiff and said "It looks like a big panda!" So it became the Panda.

Later, I added the word "Tactical" in front of it because it sounded badass.

Just want to take a minute to brag about my youngest son. We had his Eagle Scout ceremony this past Saturday. He’s 15, and earned 43 merit badges on his trek to Eagle. He also presented me with the “Mentor” pin. It was a very proud dad moment.

 

So today I’ve got jury duty. Not sure if I’ll be selected, so I’m sitting in the courthouse waiting. Happy Humpday everyone!

 

I've been summoned for Jury Duty a few times and was selected once. It was a rather interesting experience. I wouldn't mind doing it again.

 

I was not selected for the civil trial.

 

I've only been called twice (TX&NM), but never selected.

The TX case was a traffic accident lawsuit. I was dismissed when I said I thought suing for pain&suffering was BS because there's no way to quantify it. The NM case was a murder trial. I was dismissed when I mentioned that I've been known to try to pass out looking at gory scenes.

 

The age old question: Would you want to trust your fate to 12 people who were too dumb to get out of jury duty?

I had to serve for a criminal trial. It seems a local doctor had got himself hooked on opioids (Hydrocodone). He was charged with obtaining controlled substances under false pretenses because he was tricking his patients into obtaining the drugs for him.

He was an ENT doctor. After he would perform surgery on a patient he would prescribe them Hydrocodone for the pain, along with some other meds.

Then at the patient's follow-up appointment a week later, he would tell them to bring along all the meds he had prescribed (which would include the Hydrocodone). After the exam, he would tell the patient that they didn't need the Hydrocodone anymore and would prescribe a less-intense painkiller. He would also tell the patient that since Hydrocodone was a controlled substance, they should leave the Hydrocodone with him so it could be "disposed of properly". Usually, the patients wouldn't argue.

He had a good scam going until he tried to pull the trick on a pharmacist who understood the laws regarding drugs. She surrendered her Hydrocodone at her follow-up appointment but returned to the good doctor's office the next day and said she wanted her Hydrocodone back. The receptionist told her "Sorry, it went out in yesterday's trash collection."

The pharmacist then reported the incident to the Commonwealth Attorney's office.

We found the doctor Guilty. He didn't go to jail but he lost his medical license and paid a big fine.

 

Tacoma World Secret Santa 2021 is open now for any interested. I’ve done it the past two (3?) years, and it’s been a blast!

 

Wife an I made a trip up to Arlington National Cemetery, today. I have not been there since I was a kid in elementary school. That said, We went up for the Centennial Commemoration (100 years). The first time in 96 years the general public could walk up and lay a flower at the Tomb. We were with in 20-25 feet of it. A very awesome experience to be that close to pay our respects. At the same time we also got to see the changing of the guard up close. Timing was a fluke and could not have been better.





Being a kid at 8-11 years old (first time going). I don’t think I really got the significance of it. At 51…. Huge difference, total respect and Honor.

 

Happy Veterans Day to the folks on this thread that served. I know there’s a few of us. Today I’m joining my VFW post for a Veterans Day ceremony in downtown Fredericksburg. I joined the VFW a few months ago and this is my first ceremony so hopefully it’ll be fun.
