Anyone been out to Big Levels or Cold Spring/Bald Mountain trails?

Thinking of heading out there today and just wanted to get a little report.

Thank you sir. Annual birthday/drum fishing trip to Hatteras Island. One of these days I'm going to find a way to just stay there.

The house I'm in now is already estimated almost double what I paid for it a few years ago. It wasn't at all the house I wanted, but I got such a great deal on it, I had to buy it. I've already considered sprucing it up in the next few years, listing it and sitting on it until it sells, then buying a cheap fixer upper on the island down there with the profit. I'm absolutely in love with that place and have been for 27 years.

it's a great place we like staying around mile marker 12. I go out and fish off the piers, it's the only time I fish anymore. Christie got me into walking down the beach and hunting for sea glass as I get bored with the water fairly quickly it keeps me occupied and let's us take long walks. While I'd love to live on the island the hurricanes worry me and idk if I could handle that aspect I'm thinking more about a house just over on the mainland like Manteo

Never actually been to Hatteras. When we started doing the Outer Banks once a year vacation, we rented houses at Carova or Corolla. We went from that to camping on Cape Lookout NS on South Core Banks. Fine area of the country to be in. I love going and Chillin on the beach.

Manteo is still on an island. Just doesn't feel that way. Hatteras and Ocracoke are definitely way out there in hurricane territory though. I usually stay at the KOA in Rodanthe or Frisco Woods campground in Frisco (duh).

It was honestly sad seeing how bad they got hit at the south end by Matthew. I only went down past Frisco twice the whole week I was there. Felt like I was in the way and didn't want to be "that guy" while they were trying to clean up and pick up the pieces.

Maybe next year we can set up a TW trip down there. I have a feeling by reading your posts and adventures, you'd probably really enjoy Hatteras Island more than Corova. Personally, I stay as far away from that end of the OBX as I can. Even had friends offer me a free bed when they went down for a week and I passed it up.

The North end wasn't bad. It was a good way to get our feet wet to do vacations with young kids, and it was a 4x4 adventure for us. Cape Lookout was much more fun. We had one hurricane (Sandy I think) follow us off the island. We ferried to the mainland about 24 hours before she made landfall, got home into to fill up the bathtub with extra water and hunker down in the basement.

A TW meet at Hatteras would be cool!

Ok. peeps, our thread is falling by the wayside. Time to fix that! We need to continue this thing. Now then, we need to settle on a place for the first misfits meet n greet. When and where. Suggestions?
