Thanks! It's an easy drive strait down 29. Just a little boring by yourself. My usual copilot is scrapbooking tomorrow so flying solo.

Well... The color matched grille project kind of started because I finally found a can of 8P4 Duplicolor.

Annnnnnnnd then if you look at the left side of the grille where that piece of tape is, you'll see my exact point of defeat. I don't have any fine line tape, and even if I did, I doubt I could get it around that bend. This thing was supposed to come seperated, at least that's what I thought. Oh well.

So I gave up and have made the decision to seperate the grille and get some mesh to do a thin lip (cause screw the epoxy and Bondo process), or order a cutout style 3 piece black billet insert, which I believe will have me cutting that thing out anyway.

What do you guys think? I'm leaning towards thin lip, because I love the look.

It's a work in progress. See my build thread.
Coat the area you can't mask with vaseline usiing a q-tip. Then you should be able to wipe it all off after you paint it.

    Probably thin lip.

Oil + paint is usually a big no-no. It might work, but I've seen things go reaaaaalllly bad in a hurry if the two try to occupy the same space. Hell, I've seen fish eyes just from tire shine in the air hitting something fresh.

I might try it with a hobby knife. My hands are too big to fit down in there with any precision. Like trying to fit a ham into a cereal bowl.

jst overlap the edge a little, tuck what you can in by running around it with your fingernail, and trim the rest with a razor. It's teedious but simpler than seperating to me unless you want to do the other grill

Yeah. Tedious is a great word for it. Lol.

I still don't understand why they couldn't just use regular clipping tabs. Is what it is though.

I eventually had to seperate mine to put the raptor lights in it and hide the wires. Some folks say it's easy I thought it was a pain in the ass

Yeah... I probably still will eventually. Right now my main goal is get rid of the chrome, because I want to do something with the wheels that's not going to look right with the chrome grille.

So, I took your advice, and the razor blade wasn't terrible. We'll see how good I did when I untape it, but so far:

    IMG_20170129_011203.jpg IMG_20170129_011814_895.jpg

It's got a little trash in it, but my garage is filthy, and I think most of it could be wetsanded out. That's just the final coat of clear. I think I might have picked up a little bit of this painting thing from my old man. Lol.

Honestly, as much as it's covered up by the ARB bumper, I probably won't even bother. I'm going to buff the truck in the spring anyway, so I'll probably get it then if it bothers me. I can't wait to put it on tomorrow though. :D

Before I read the body of the post, I thought those were pictures of a headlight and was wondering why you had newspaper inside your headlight. LOL.

Well it almost matches. I should have used some green etching primer instead of grey. But it's close. And don't mind the hail damage on the hood. That's still being sorted out kind of. A TRD scooped hood is going to be ordered soon.

Yeah. When the accident happened my dad had mentioned it was a darker greener variant and he got it as close as he could. Which was pretty damn close. I knew it wasn't going to be perfect. But I needed that chrome out of my life. I can live with it for the $70 I spent including the new grille. Lol.
