I own a '16 4x4 TRD offroad double cab. Same bumper misalignment issue as pictured in this thread. Every bumper I've seen online or at the dealer with this issue has a larger gap on the drivers side. My bed and cab are aligned very well, but my bumper is misaligned big time. My theory is that some of these plastic bumpers come from manufacturing warped. Maybe they come out of the mold and don't cool evenly, causing the warp. I've studied mine and swear the thing has a slight twist in it, creating the larger gap on one side. The gap on mine also changes in size depending on weather conditions. Direct sun on the passenger side makes the gap more severe.

There is a steel bumper behind the plastic so I doubt this is the case

Easy to check, remove the covers and see if the steel bumper is aligned. If it is aligned but looks off with covers installed the covers are the problem.

I know, what I'm saying is odds are likely even if they are warped the steel should keep the shape

take it to the dealers to fix, we can't just let it fly. they need to be aware that factory workers are all either overworked or just sleeping on the job. i don't even know how my truck passed QC.

The far ends of the black plastic bumper are not supported behind by any steel. Get a flashlight and stick your fingers or a tool in there. It's all open between metal frame and plastic bumper. the furthest attachment points (bolts) on left and right seem to be at least several inches from the ends.

update on my cab alignment issue, just received a call back from dealership, they say that toyota is advising them to return my truck and they are working to come up with a solution, there is not fix right now. so this is a bigger issue than alignment, for all i know it could be a bad frame! just keeping everyone update, if your cab/bed is not align don't just let it go, report it to toyota/dealership. service lady did not have time frame, but i am suppose to get a call from Toyota when there is a fix. i just hope they buy back my truck now man.

When I picked up my truck I checked if the bed was aligned. It was.
Between 5k and 10k miles and hailing around 500 lbs for 2k miles in between that life, my bed became misaligned.

I took it to my dealer and they straightened her out the same day. It was also in for the 10K service.

yeah i think if it was a bed alignment it may be easier, but mine is the front cab. we shall see what toyota can come up with.

nothing, dealership is wrong. i went ahead and re-align the bed myself by loosening bed bolts. i think the fact that these are composite beds they have a very loose tolerance, not squared.

Interesting. Did your adjustment of the bed affect alignment/gaps with the rear bumper? Is that all still even?

no it will be out of alignment, i did the best i could to balance that and bed alignment with the cab. this is why i think the bed box it self is not squared. i did some research and i think the rear bumper might be adjustable a little bit. it's less noticeable though compare to bed and cab alignment.

Ah, does that then support Toyotas opinion that it is a bigger problem and to have them buy back the truck?
