I have a 2006 regular bed tacoma, I am looking at getting a bed cover/camper shell what ever you would like to call it. Looks arent much of the issue, more so just make sure the size fits right.

Will a camper shell/bed cover off of a 97 tacoma regular bed fit alright? Or are the sizes different enough.

But, depending on your planned use and the cost, a shell for the older trucks might make sense. It won't fit properly, but if you don't intend to leave it on all the time and if it's inexpensive (like a couple hundred $), it could work for you. If you're just going to throw it on for weekend camping, there's no point spending big bucks for a perfect fit.

On the other hand, if you need the good fit, make every effort to find a good used one. If you have to buy new, the depreciation is fearsome.

I say keep looking. You will find one that works for you for cheap. Just be patient.

Won't fit. Widths are different, just enough to make it NOT work. Wait and find the right one, they pop up on craigslist all the time. You just gotta be quick to get it.
