I didnt think it could hold that much weight on that shell.

Also i wanted a robust system bc ive been reading about the shell spreading at base with weight shifting/spreading when offroading with lots of weight on top.

I really want an outer cage like this, can attack all sort of accessories to it and etc, but with my camper windows it will block when i open the side windows. Thanks though. Looks great.

I do have a plan b route if the total custom job was going to get quoted over 1700. Plan B will be a hybrid of a mounting item that is already made and cheap, with the custom part being the least technical and easy to weld.

Also the welder wont have to think at all. I will do all the metal supply buying. Im going going to cut all pieces with measurements ive taken and basically tell the welder how i want it put all together.

Now you have my curiosity. What on earth are you planning on stowing up there? That's going to significantly raise your CoG and thus increase your risk of a rollover.

Seeing if OP ended up doing anything with this. I am in the same boat sorta. Just looking for ideas. I have SnugTop Super Sport, only supports 200 lbs. Looking to reinforce and add RTT.

This. My old Tundra had a custom-made aluminum frame for carrying rafts/boats:

That's really nice. The thing I hated the most about my old setup was that I couldn't get the windoors because of my rack.

I have a Kargo Master ladder rack on my 2000 Ford Ranger (on the left, in the picture below). We use this mainly to carry a canoe. As you can see, it rests directly on the bed rails, so no weight is carried on the camper shell.

I thought about putting something similar on my new Tacoma, but decided against it. For one thing, the composite bed of the Tacoma probably doesn't have the strength of the traditional bed on the Ranger. For another thing, the design of the Leer cap has changed, so that now it laps over the top of the bed rails. I settled on putting a Prinsu on the Tacoma.
