Is that with the seats all the way back? Can you still recline them?

I've never understood why anyone would keep their truck bed full of gas cans, tools and dead rodents! :D

The seats are back 3/4ths of the way. I still have to get full clutch depression.
Yes, I can fully recline them.

How do you like the manual? All my previous cars except my current have been manual. I wonder if it makes the tacoma feel abit more lively. Only where I was concerned with manual here is city driving when I go down and offroading. Heard the mpg is abit less too?

I've owned a half dozen Toyota trucks (Tacoma and otherwise), all have had a long bed. For me, a short bed is a deal-killer. It really gets down to what will you use the bed for.

I have a dirt bike that won't comfortably fit in a short bed. On longer camping trips I need the space for stuff (especially for Baja trips). And my wife and I have slept overnight in the bed. Of course, the shorter wheelbase is nothing but advantageous in the dirt.

I had the first 2 gens of the access cab and just recently got the double cab short bed. The real doors are nice as compared to the little access cab half doors but the back doesn’t feel much bigger while the bed feels much shorter. The access cab was much cozier but maybe I’m just nostalgic. That being said I’m happy overall.

FWIW my 85 pound lab had plenty of room in my access cab with a few other small items back there. Would be worth bringing your gf and dog along for test drives and you should sit in the back seat to see how it is. I could barely fit sideways in the access cab backseat and I’m only 6’1 or so. The double cab backseat is still uncomfortable but can fit back there.

The Access Cab and 6 ft bed were pretty ideal when it was me + the girl + the dog. I think they look the best too. Now that we have a kid, the only real option is the Double Cab. I went short bed though for easier maneuvering and parking in the city and added a trailer for the things I had the long bed for (mostly transporting motorcycles). If I lived where it wasn't congested, I'd probably opt for a DC long bed.

DCSB & AC have the same wheelbase, doesn't it?

I love my MT but get cranky about the 5’ bed. I have 6’ on my ‘05 and 8’ on my ‘02. Can’t have it all but DC to me makes more sense than 6’ bed. If I could buy MT DCLB I would even at a premium. Might just go with crew cab 3500 but I don’t need 4 trucks, I don’t even need one.

With only 5’ of bed, a shell or rack or cap is nearly mandatory.

Get the double cab because girlfriends tend to mutate into wives and the next thing you know you got a bunch of little kids. An SR5 double cab long bed is probably the answer.

I have a DCSB. If and when I get a new taco, it will be an Access Cab if those even exist then. I got the DCSB so I could carry my kid and wife. When the kid moves out, I’d rather have more bed than cab, but don’t want the long wheel base on the trails, so DCLB is out.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Mine is 2016 TRD OR, access cab long bed. A short bed would not work for me. I am offroad maybe 40 times per year, and for half those trips loaded up to the max weight allowable for these vehicles. I need the extra back space more than the space a bigger back seat would afford me.

I don't overload, as the trails I drive can be pretty bad and don't want the tail end dragging too much in washouts.

I bought mine used, but waited a long time for a long bed TRD OR with access cab to hit the used market.

Tacoma's have space limitations no matter what model you get, they are a mid size truck. Never going to beat an 8 foot box on a full size truck for storage needs.

I had a couple of old Ford 4x4's with 8 foot box. I miss that storage, but those full size 4x4's are too freaking huge for the trails I drive.

Everyone has their own unique situation. What I have works for my usage.

I was contemplating but with the underground parking here and trail size, the short wheel base/shorter truck makes the most sense for me. So my only options are he TRD offroad in the

    Acess cab 6ft box
    Or
    Double cab 5ft box

Not interested in the SR or TRD pro (short whell base also.
