Bed extended install

Hey guys. Bout to install an AMP HD bed extender. I have the Toyota rubber bed mat as well. Do I need to remove the mat when fitting and installing the extended or just leave in? TIA

Leave the mat in place just follow the instructions. Location is key so measure 2x as they say.

 

When you say measure 2x should I still use the template they give and then what? Sorry just a little nervous about drilling holes in the new Taco.

Just double check before you start drilling holes. In my experience, I taped the templates about 1/4-1/2 inch high because the rubber Legs on the extender don't fall between the raised portions of the bed. My bed extender is a little bit older but still made by AMP installs the same way. But just double check this part for yours And yes,I would remove the bed mat.

Tape the templates and put the bed extender inside and hold it so The pivot points line up with the center of the bracket picture. You want the extender to be nice and level when in the open and closed position with the tailgate opened or closed. And make sure you have the extender as close to the edge of the tailgate when opened. Then make sure you can still close the tailgate with the extender put away.
