it may sound like a stupid question, but i just find the bed divider to be very expensive.. and for about the same price i can get the extender which could do both jobs

I use my extender for groceries and smaller things. It's a large enough area for most things. Roughly 2 feet.

I have a cap on my truck but the extender would fit fine with a cover. It rests below the level of the bedsides.

Great pic. Do you have one with the Extender folded back into the bed?

I found the best price on eBay. I think I paid about 175 shipped.

You can get one thru Amp Research or Toyota branded (which is an Amp Research extender with a Toyota sticker). I bought mine on craigslist for $100

The extender works as a great divider.... groceries, golf clubs, mulch, etc. There have been instances where I need to take it out to utilize my entire bed and it fits in the back of my access cab.

Does the one from the older gen 2's fit? Those aren't angled and seem to be more usable, for me anyway - that is what I put on my 15 and use it a lot for groceries, gas cans, etc.

Yes, they are completely interchangeable. I had my old (gen2) extender when I bought my '16 which came with the new style. I ended up selling the new one and using the older one because I can use it with my ATV in the bed.

I use mine as a divider all the time, in fact, that's what I bought it for. The divider is more expensive and really only serves one purpose. I also use my extender to trap things to it.

I got mine with the truck "exterior package" (includes extender, exhaust tip, black oval steps, spare tire lock) which was $625 invoice cost--added onto my dealer's allocation, with bed mat too when I put money down on the truck. Yeah I probably paid too much for that stuff but I didn't care. I'm the type who likes it Loaded which is also why I asked for the premium/tech and JBL. The extender does work well for holding groceries and other smaller items. It has a variety of purposes and I think it is a good thing to have on hand as a DCSB owner. And as someone said above, you can also strap items to it.

I use my amp research bed extender as a bed divider just fine for everyday use. Bought this AMP research one from auto anything with free shipping. Called and got about 25% off from a nice sales guy as well.

My 70 lb labradoodle fits just fine with the tailgate closed and the bed extender folded in, which is perfect. She lays down between the tailgate and the bed extender, which keeps stuff from sliding into her when the bed is fully loaded with outdoor gear.

One thing I will say is that the bed divider I have (I believe it is a Toyota one...not sure since I bought it used) is much heavier duty than the amp bed extenders, so if you are going to be dividing up very heavy cargo that is one thing to consider. On the flip side, the bed extender is WAY easier to remove and install than the bed divider - takes about 10 seconds to put it in or remove it, which is really nice flexibility wise.

How do you secure your dog in your truck? Are you using a dog crate or some type of tie down? I use Dog crates but they take up too much space. Considering getting an Owens Dog Box if they'll fit. I have a German Shorthair and English Setter that I use for Quail hunting. I can't let them roam free in the bed or I'm pretty sure they'd jump out the first time they see a bird fly across the road or a Rabbit running.
