Bed extender suggestions?

No. It has to be at 45% in order to remove or install.
It's really easy to remove and install.

 

Honestly, I've never tried removing it from an upright position, but I have removed it facing the bed and facing the tailgate. I've released it on some pretty funky angles when only one of the tabs was in the bracket slot.

I have these ones. If you get them from the dealership they come with nuts and bolts instead of screws, and the hardware is powder coated black.

 

If you were in Utah I would give you mine.. its the AMP that is more square.. can't use it with my Caliraised bed stiffener things nor with my shell..

 

Awesome. I'm interested in upgrading to better mounts. I currently have the old style which are pictured below. The bed extender needs to be 90° to remove or install. With tall and bulky items it becomes impossible to remove and replace the bed extender which makes it useless sometimes.

 

This makes me wonder.

I still have the bed extender from my '01 Taco. I forgot to put it in when I sold it. I'm going to do some measuring and see if the old one will fit in my new Taco. All I would need are some brackets.

 

There is a good chance that it will be compatible. The designs I've seen from AMP use sliding tubes that Are adjustable during assembly. I currently have a bed extender from a Nissan Frontier installed in the Tacoma. I only needed to slide the tubes inward to fit the narrower tailgate of the Tacoma.

 

I agree. I bought a used one that I disassembled and painted. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was compatible with a full size truck because the center tubes were so long.

I have the OEM one and wish I had a different more square one. The rounded corners eat up space and when it's disconnected but still in the bed it teeters back and forth making noise as you drive

 

Yeah the cut off/rounded corners really do limit the utility of the OEM one more than I would have expected. There is no conflict with the wheel wells so that it could have easily been squared off instead, not sure why they did that. Wish I had gotten an aftermarket one that was square or even just skipped it all together. The bed mat is surprisingly rubbery enough that things don't really slide around in there anyways.

 

For the quick release?

I have the quick release (not the factory hardware) and never tilt mine to release it.

 

I read that they rounded the corners off because the squared off version can restrict people’s view of the tail lights from certain angles.

 

Yeah I think someone mentioned that earlier. It really cuts down on the utility more than I thought it would though. I end up just leaving it out most of the time at this point.

 

I would consider switching mine out if I didn't have to drill more holes. Does anyone know if the OEM brackets work with a aftermarket extender.

 

Did a little test fit and the extender from my '01 will fit. Those center bars do adjust too.

Now I just need to find some brackets.
