For those who know, or have one. The OEM bed Extender offered up by Toyota. Does anyone know its max load? I know it is made out of aluminum so it should hold up about as well as a new f150... But I am curious if it could handle a dozen or so 2x4's resting on top of it without damage? Or is it basically made to keep groceries from flying out?

    Thanks in advance

It should handle that load easily. I use my extender all the time and it's supported heavy objects on many occasions.

I believe the oem is made by AmpResearch. If so mine said 300 lbs load. However not sure if they mean load pushing out or load placed on top. I bet you can do a few hundred pounds evenly distributed either way.

My Bed Extender is the original Nissan Frontier OEM Sliding Bed Extender made by AMP. New and Used Bed extenders were running a little steep in price so I reused by old one from my Frontier. I picked it up for 100 bucks on eBay and got lucky when it turned to be older U-Shaped design and not the lame V-shape they sell now. It comes with brackets that attach to the Nissan bed rails and has the top tubes cut so it can clear the wheel wells if you slide it.

Yeah, curious on this also. I haven't installed the stock extender myself. It's just sitting in the garage at the moment. I used the factory all metal bed divider for everything else though. I wasn't sure if the factory extender and the plastic vertical supports would hold up the weight I put on it this weekend.

I had to buy mounting brackets that screw directly into the D-Pillars of the Tacoma. The Sliding brackets also would not fit in the narrower Toyota rail and would not hold the extender at the correct height for the deeper bed.

@remgu2000, I saw your post on the AMP research one from Jet.com I am about to pull the trigger on the same one (black). Did you have to buy anything extra? bracket wise etc? have any pictures of your truck with it installed? both folded in and out? Thanks man

Are you getting the HD Max U-Shape or the V-Shape?

I also reused the Extender from my Frontier. All you have to do is loosen the bolts in the center of the Extender (Hex if I remember correctly) and slide it together to make it narrower as on the Taco it will attach to the D pillars. Then you just buy the mounting brackets. BTW I highly recommend getting the Quick Release brackets, they come in much handier than you expect.

As far as the weight support, I am not certain, but I'm sure you should be fine as long as evenly distributed. I've had some pretty heavy stuff on mine.

Nope nothing extra. Just remember the deal with the templates. Go online and print your own before you start drilling. Compare the template with the brackets before you start.

I'm not sure myself. All I know is that it is the early version released. You can check Nissan Parts or eBay where I've seen a few of the older (better) models.

Mine was from my 2005 Frontier (should be the same 05+) It was a port option when I bought it New. It doesn't 'look' adjustable, but if you loosen the hex bolts you should be able to expand/contract it.

thanks for the replies! i was able to pick it up and it was adjustable from the hex screws.

quick question though; the bracket kits that you got online, did you use the screws it came with or did you buy nuts and bolts? if you used the screws, did you have to remove the taillight first?
