Was wondering if a bed light kit could be added to a base model SR tacoma 2022. I have the 2 cut outs in the bed but there is no switch in the cab. Thanks !

Pip the panels and see if it's pre-wired. There would be no switch, if it didn't come with option. Just like everyone else, you have to and switch. I would put switch back be tailgate. That the most convenient spot for it. At least mine.

I have heard on here that even though the lights aren’t there the wires are. Or maybe I just had and extra sip of bourbon and thought I saw that. I’m pretty sure I did ( have an extra sip of bourbon ) and actually see that.

You have to pull one of the tail lights to see if the bed light harness is there. It isn't visible through the bed light opening itself. The bed light kit includes two short wire harnesses to connect to the plugs behind the tail lights.

Trucks that have a cargo light combined with the high-mounted brake light, have the dash switch. For all others, you must add it. The switch costs nearly twice as much as the bed light kit.

Toyota makes a kit for our trucks, I just installed it in my 17 last week. I don't love how it pulls power but the lights look/work great.

yes but... you have to run wiring from the tailgate area to the inside of the cab. the newer versions tap wiring near the tail lamp area. I ran the wiring for the power gate lock, and was hoping to avoid running it again, into the cab. looking for an easier solution... I am lazy. Ski

Wonder if we could adapt it to work with the newer 2021 bed lights.

Would need a template to cut out the hole for them. Then maybe the male connector to mate the harness with the new bed light for that OEM PnP look.

But 2020 and below lacks the whole pre-wiring harness that 2021+ models have right behind the taillight dedicated just for the bed lights.

So you would still need to run long wiring for 2020 and below to the taillight area to use the newer bed lights.

True, running that wire did suck! Love the lights though, it was worth it.

My 2020 has the harness behind the tail lights so all I needed to do was tap a switch into the cargo light connector which was already behind the switch panel.

maybe a plug and play tap light for the tail lamps, with a switch at the back? even though I would prefer the dome lamp/bed switch, which I have on my 19 Sport. Ski

Yeah, it's turned on with the dome lights. It's tapped into power under the drivers side kick panel.
