Hello everyone. This is my first post as I'm new to the forums and also a new Tacoma owner (first Toyota as well). I purchased a 2018 Tacoma and it looks like the owner was in the paint business so there are paint splatters and other chemicals adhered to the composite bed. I also noticed that some areas have the bed coating removed. I don't know what type of coating the bed has but if I were to guess, I'd say it's some ceramic type of clear hard coating similar to what hardwood floor manufacturers use to make their flooring more scratch resistant.

My first question is what is the best and safest method to remove the paint from the bed without causing more damage. My second question I'm wondering about is if it's possible to get a hold of this clear coating Toyota uses on the bed or a similar spray on product?

Besides the bed, the truck is in excellent condition but the bed is such an eye sore. I tried to use some rubbing alcohol but it does nothing to remove the paint. I tried paint stripper on a very small paint drip and it removed the paint drip as well as the clear coating leaving a dull spot so it's obviously too harsh. If the coating is easy to purchase or if it's regular two part clear coat used on paint then I don't mind just sanding down everything and spraying a new layer of clear. I just don't know how durable regular two-part clear coat is going to be. Any advice would be appreciated.

Note there is no bed liner. The bed itself is composite.

    None....yet.
Mineral spirits and a stiff brush? Less harsh than paint stripper.

Edit: ive recently seen in a thread that a pressure washer will take paint off (albeit not necessarily in the bed) :bananadead:

I'd toss a bed mat in for the bottom. Maybe a plastic razor blade to remove from the sides?

I meant the bed itself. These new composite beds remind me of plastic bed liners since so I use them interchangeably sorry.

I haven't tried mineral spirits or goof off yet so I'll give those a try today.

A bed mat would be the quickest way to hide them. You'll want one any way once your shit starts sliding around the slick bed...

You can do a rattle can spray in bed liner for probably under $50 + $80 bed mat.
