I know 99.9% of guys won't care about the smell of a bed mat. I'm big into hunting and scent control. Storing my hunting gear in the bed with the mat it pointless as everything comes out smelling like rubber. I've tried scent eliminating soaps, baking powder, and letting it sit in the sun for days. It still stinks like rubber. Short of a post bake oven at 400F for 6hrs, how can I get rid of the smell?

simply green cleaner for now..? my bed mat doesn't stink even if dead deer lay on it. The factory rubber smell went away on its own(I use a lowmax cover)

Is it the Toyota bed mat (Rubber)?

I have the Toyota bed mat and I don't remember mine smelling.

I would suggest simple green wash and a through rinse.

Mine had issues at first, but just giving it time has solved the odor problems. Only time I notice anything now is if it's been sitting in 105 ambient heat in the sun with the tonneau closed.

This was discussed here not too long ago. If I recall, some said the smell dissipated over time and some said it never really goes away. Mine still has an odor after about a year but it definitely has reduced over time. Full disclaimer; I have the factory tonneau cover on my truck so the bed mat is rarely basking in the open sunshine.

Perhaps mine was old stock or something but it never had much of a smell to it other than when it was initially unrolled.

Being that you're "big into hunting and scent control", you should really stop putting your hunting gear on the mat at all. Store everything in scent controlled containers and stop worrying about the bed mat. Any hardware that is too large for contained should be sanitized of scent prior to entering your hunting area.

Let it sit in the sun for as long as you can. A good scrub before and after should eliminate the smell.

Mine still has a bit of an off-gas smell after about 2 months, I do have a cover on the bed.

Hauled half a yard of compost in it a bit back that seemed to help a lot, got another load or 2 to haul
over the next few weeks. Doesn't bug me tho.

you could try putting the bed mat in an enclosed space with an ozone generator. don't run it too long though as ozone can oxidize (everything).

Thought about putting it in the bed with ozonics plugged in and the tonneau cover closed. I think it's going to take heat and time. Like it's unreached monomer from when the rubber was vulcanized. Unfortunately I got it after the hottest time of year. I did smell it baking on my driveway today even though it's 65F . Hopefully the sun does the trick

I wash the bed and trifold. It's not practical to pack my climbing sticks, treestand, and climber into a scent proof container. Nor is it practical to wash them every time I go out. It's an unnecessary step (unless the bed mat makes them stink) that will result in wet straps and a wet butt. Plus I don't see it working out well. My hunting spot isn't close by and I currently don't have a camp or running water. Wash it at home and it will probably just pick up more stench while driving. I'd rather let them slide around a little and not use the mat, but that defeats the purpose of buying it.

I think they must have changed the formula in their rubber. My bed mat smelled mildly of rubber when I first took it out of the box, but after that I never remember smelling it at all. I bought it about 2 years ago.
