Bed mat rubber stink

Take the mat out until you're happy with the smell level.

If using it to keep that gear from sliding, just secure your gear with some tie downs.

 

It's probably all in the manufacturing process and material. I should have just used a hunk of stall mat I a have from tractor supply. In the future if I ever need one, I'm buying stall mat material. Cheaper and I can tell if it stinks before buying

 

Needs to outgas for a while. Take it out put it in the sun.

 

I’ve smelled worse

 

mine was gone within a few weeks, but I have a black truck, black cover which sits in the sun... only wisconsin though so not as hot as some other places.

 

I’ve got the same issues. Left it out on the fence with the strong Colorado sun beating down on it and it still smells so bad. Sprayed it with vinegar. Power washed it. It still smells.

 

mine stunk for a year or so after i got it. probably still smells but i have an open bed.

 

I bought some new bumper plates guy was selling locally. About an hour drive home with those in the back along with the mat...Whew! Opened up the tailgate when I got home and the smell was like a slap in the face. Almost knocked me over...LOL.

 

yea, most animals know the smell of a bed mat,, they will run the other way.. too funny

 

Only time will work, I’m sure sun helps, but I think that’s just speeding up the process.
If you’re a super-scenter type hunter, why not just run w/o the bed mat for hunting season?
Too simple?

 

I had the same thought when season was coming around. I didn’t have the mat prior, but it’s def a strong smell.

I’ve washed this thing, doesn’t change it. Personally, I don’t mind the smell.. almost smells new? However, I do fear my scent will stand out if I leave gear back there.

 

Just posted about this yesterday. Yes, it reeks. I need someone in Phoenix to take it for a while to bake it out.

 

try soaking it in deer urine. or you could seal it up with plastic sheeting until it's done off-gassing.

mine finally stopped stinking when the rubber started breaking down...lol. probably from all the bleach and chemicals from hauling garbage.

 

I don't know where in the Hell you guys are hunting but I could go out on my porch with a bed mat, old spice and eating onions and bag my limit. Deer are not hard.

 

super-scenters and other deer hunters plain overthink things.
My brother is one, I swear all his prep probably does more harm than good.

A deer rode on my bed mat to the processor tonight.
I don't recall mine smelling for long. Installed in May 2021. Black truck, no cover in hot ass SC

I do keep my gear in a plastic tote in the cab though. With those earth scent wafers.
