I think when I bought mine, I read that it was 20 pounds. Been a while, so I could be off. I'll say this though: Best purchase you'll make for that truck. I can now put beer (and other, less important things) back there without it sliding around

The shortbed mat is no way 50 lbs.

I just received mine recently. Havent even put it on the truck yet. Shipping label says 18lbs. But on my home scale, it weights at 23 lbs.

They're just little skill saws.. nothing worth tying down.. lol

Here's an idea, I don't know how well it would work.. but how about that grip tape? I had thought about trying it before I got the mat..
Its almost like sandpaper, so It should keep stuff from sliding around.

My vote would be for the Toyota bed mat. This all sounds like a lot of trouble to save a few dollars. The Toyota piece isn't remotely close to 50 lbs, looks very nice, stays flexible and sticky in all temps, leaves the rear d-rings exposed so you can secure your kennel, and fits perfectly. Sometimes trying to improve on that stuff produces a negative ROI, in my humble one-guy opinion. :)

One of my friends uses a Horse mat in his Pretaco and that thing is burly! I have been thinking about going that route as well.
