Im getting older, and its getting harder and harder for me to be lifting my ice fishing house and kayak into the bed. Their not that heavy (100lbs or so) its just their super awkward to lift and big, plus right now I am 2.5 inches lifted, but with my new tires I will be another 1 inch higher.

So I am looking to build a "ramp" and bolt a winch down in the bed that I can just pull them up. Since I would be pulling a max of 150lbs up a pvc or roller ramp it shouldn't need a ton of structural support.

What are all your thoughts about just bolting the winch plate to the floor of the bed with some plates behind it? Or should I build the full frame that ties to the top rails?

*Additional notes for those who dont know me
I got spinal damage a few years ago, lifting is not my strong point anymore. If I am tired from pulling my sled or paddling all day, then I need to flag down help to lift my gear back into my truck.

Use the bed bolts for the winch???

Another option is to mount the winch on a 2x6 and put in the bed pockets so that you can remove the winch if you need full access to the bed. Could then put straps to the D rings to hold the 2x6 down while winching.

I'd put a boat winch on the rail. The higher off the deck you can get it, the easier the angle of attack.

Though the easiest way to load would be to put that ice house on a trailer.

Thats a good idea with putting a 2x6 and some straps. Though that wouldnt let my kayak fit all the way into the bed :(

Not a bad idea, I could put it up front. Though I would need to have it a powered winch so I can guide it and since I have a cover I cant get into the bed with my ice shack.

My dad had suggested one of those too, but I need to be able to run it while outside of the bed, also a cheaper atv winch is less than half that price.

Idea Out of my mind is to attach it to bed bolt ring. Should be able to handle 100 lbs

If you use the pockets you won't need any bolts just a strap to keep it from lifting up. This should allow you to remove the 2x6 after the kayak is in the bed then slide the kayak forward in the space the 2x6 was occupying.

So maybe an ATV winch on the bed floor, boat pulley on a portable a-frame so you can lift it into the tailgate, stow the pulley, and use the remaining slack to pull it towards the cab.

I think I found a good solution that doesnt require drilling bed really.... So I already have o-tracks in my bed to secure my mini bike, I could build a frame with the winch and the kayak/ice house sliding rails (PVC pipe) already on it. Then I would just bolt the frame down to my o-tracks. This guy uses a hand winch, but I could use the part @Rock Lobster posted but with a electric winch mounted to it.

How about a rope pull pulley system?

Not sure I would be able to pull hard enough to do that. Maybe with a few extra pullies for a multiplier, but no way would I be able to pull it with feet on ice.

What if you mounted the winch on one of back d rings and a pulley on the top front bed rail? That will raise the line up and give you easier access to the winch. You can also watch/move the sled easier to make sure it's going in how you want.

That might work, I will have to see as the sled is pretty wide, but I dont think its too wide to block me from being able to do that.

there was another guy a few months ago that just asked the same thing-- a winch for kayaks.

all the same suggestions, i believe he ended up building a winch mount out of some aluminum x-channel that mimicked the toy loader design.

otherwise, i'm using these for inspiration for my own bed mount winch design. i want it, don't need it...

These would be great, but they would block my soft topper and I need that in the winter time to keep the snow and ice out of the bed.... plus my ice shack pretty much lives in the bed of my truck all winter long.

Just wanted to update my thread here with what I have sofar. I got a 2500lb winch with wireless remote at harbor freight, then using some 1 inch box tubing and the bed rails I made a mount for it.
I still need to clean up my wiring and figure out if I am just going to leave a deep cycle battery in the back or if I am going to run a power cable to the bed. Going to swap out the cable with a synthetic rope to make cold weather use a bit less of a pain, also going to pull it out and paint the whole thing black. Finally I need to figure out a power switch for it, If I keep the battery in the bed then I will just put a switch inline there, but if I am going to run power from the battery then I will put a power switch inside the cab.
