This system is just the worst...

Its great right, until its not. I just took off a bed cover because this rail system wont allow me to run trac rac AND a bed cover at the same time.

While removing the screws holding the rail/bed cover I stripped 2 on each side. The brass insert in the plastic just spins. Now I have a major percentage loss of holding power. At this point I'm thinking to fasten through the face of the trac rac system through the metal bed rail and a support strip of steel sandwiched up under the metal bed rail.

Anyone deal with this disaster ?

Cant you just lower the bed rail to a new location below the rack mounts.

Not sure if I follow you but if I use any new hole locations then I won't get the benefit of the brass insert in the plastic bed liner.

Been there done that. Pain in the a$$! I had two strip total and it took me awhile and a 3rd hand to get them to finally unthread. I drilled new holes and said eff it.

Your going to have to grind those heads off to remove the rail completely now that they are just spinning. Just be careful on the driver side not to hit the gas filler neck.

Can't remember who makes them, but for the price I think I'd rather have stiffeners with a longer lower leg.

My primary concern is loading the truck rack with lumber. I've gone far enough on this project to know that the truck isn't made for it so I'll never overload it. But still... 2 screws down on each side isn't great.

I will try to draw up some details of what I'm thinking about building.
