Hi all, im new on here. Although I have searched for my question in the thread search, but have had no luck.
My question is, who has had any luck in installing the power outlet on a base model tacoma. For instance, I have a 2015 4WD double cab tacoma, and I would love to have the opportunity to have a power outlet in the bed. If the thread already exists, please point me into the right direction. If not please explain how I would go about add aN original power outlet to my truck bed.

I have a 2009 4x4 base. I originally wanted options on the truck without getting the full offroad and SR5 packages. I added cruise control, intermittent wipers, the auto dim rear view mirror, the overhead temp / compass. Etc. what I’m getting at Is toyota pre wires things. So look under your center console for a white empty plug. If it’s there you are pre wired. Find someone selling the harness and the inverter itself and you should be good after installing the needed fuses / relays in the fuse boxes.

I thought about it, but I don’t really want to drop the money on that right now. But it should be plug and play

Right on. Good luck on your auto to manual transfer project.

While the bed outlet is kinda neat, you might want to read threads around here from folks who find it marginally useful.

You might decide not to go down that path. Or you might. It's good to know in advance.

If you are wired for PnP, I'd try to get the parts from a wrecking yard.

Here’s a good write up on a 12v outlet to the bed. It’s really simple 2 wires from the battery to the socket and mount it with a proper rated fuse near the battery on the positive side.
I’m doing mine this weekend using 10ga wire and a 15amp fuse. The oem inverter outlet is pretty a nice novelty but I don’t like it.

I feel like if you want something useful in the bed, put together your own kit with a better, more powerful, inverter. You could buy the plastic housing which has the rear plug and cover which would replace one of you long storage compartments in the bed.

That said, I have the OEM outlet and I've basically never used it. If I'm running something substantial, I'm bringing my portable generator. My smaller stuff can usually be powered from my portable battery packs.

Just run a blue sea 12V plug or 3 in the back and connect it to the battery.
