I apologize if this’s been gone over before (I looked, but couldn’t find it, specifically.)

Does anyone have any insight into load-bearing, mid-height, overland racks, and the best way to mount them?

Most available seem to mount directly on top of the side-walls of the bed, while I’ve seen a few that mount to the bed, directly.

There seems to be some debate between which is better, as the former can push the Taco walls outward over time, while the latter can bend and flex a little better as the truck does.

    Thoughts?

@glantzy ,They mount to the rails below the bedside cap. Get some T-slot nuts from Amazon that are threaded straight through. Purchase bolts that fit the thread pitch in the t- slot nuts and bolts. Of course you'll want some decent size bolts say in the 5/16"-3/8" range, I believe, for sturdiness If you're worried about flex and cracking of bed, get some bed stiffeners from total chaos, cali raised, or many other companies offering these. Welcome to TW by the way. Your wallet will hate you soon, but it'll all be worth it. Congrats on the new truck too.

And by the way, there are many different companies offering racks too. RCI, CBI, Cali Raised, KB Voodoo, and I'm sure many more. I have the RCI and love the functionality and look of it. 20190721_125843.jpg

Yeah, thanks, @toycoma 2016! The RCI rack was actually the one I was looking at, originally. Hadn’t thought about bed stiffeners, though. Great suggestion. I’m new to the Tacoma stuff, so there’s been a lot read through - and a lot more to read through, still. haha

Would love to find a rack that works well with a tonneau cover, as I live in the great white north, but it seems the most effective for something like that is mounting something to a tri/bi-fold DiamondBack

I’m stoked to have one, but my wallet’s already giving me the evil-eye.
