I’ve been working on a bed rack softcover for my Heavy Metal Off-road bars. The goal is to have just enough sun and rain protection for the trail, plus it helps keep gear in the bed.

Future plans are to add front and rear cargo nets to keep stuff off the rear window and from flying out the back. I also want to make a Prinsu-style rack for the bed bars so I can add more tie down points along the top of the cover. That should help take up some slack.

    What do you think?

The cover was straightforward to measure up for the bed bars, with two side panels and one top piece. I’ve made one for a bed rack with 3 bars and it was tensioned much better.

Plus it fits nicely under a RTT, even in a Frontier!

Here is how it straps to the bed rail and bed stiffener:

My COVID craft side hustle has been sewing bags- Fanny packs, backpacks, and bikepacking gear. Having an industrial sewing machine makes projects like this possible. Domestic machines just don’t have the punching power for heavy fabrics or the consistent stitch of a compound feed machine.
