Bed Rack with Linear Actuators

Not really sure where else to post this. If there is a better place, please let me know and I'll move it.

I've been looking at getting a bed rack but I've been stuck between a Leitner and a shorter one. They both have their pros and cons. I primarily use my truck for commuting so having a brick of a tent sticking out the top seems a bit dumb for me. I haven't really thought out this idea very far but I'm considering building my own bed rack with linear actuators to lift the rack up and down. Can I do it without making it crazy heavy? I have no idea yet. Considering that a Leitner is ~$1400 I feel like I have some room. Has anyone done anything like this before?
