I'm planning on this being a future mod so I figured I would start getting info now. What bed do you all recommend and in Mid or high height?. Also I will be putting an RTT on it so has to be sturdy. What RTT's are people using?

    Thanks

There are a lot of threads on this, maybe why low response.

I have a cab high AllPro rack, and I think it is too high, yet I don't have a tent yet. I want to put my kayak on top, and I think it will be to high over the tent. I think I'm going to cut my rack down 3-4" so that the rack is even with the top of the back window. Should also help with wind drag.

I'm pulling the trigger on a Tepui. They are local and I've been to their show room, top of the line, I heard CVT copies their stuff :stirthepot:

The height is nice for normal bed use.

nice, even if you cut it down once you put the Tent on top wont it still be over the cab? because I was thinking about that being a problem when put a RTT on mine that's why I was leaning more towards the medium height racks. I also would like to make it simple to remove which all of them seem to be so when I have to load my Motorcycle in the back. I guess I can try searching again most threads I saw are asking between a topper or bed rack. Thanks

I also wonder with the tall bed racks could I load my bike in the back without removing the rack?

I think you could if you hang the front tire over the tailgate or pull the front tire and have a fork mount.

Mid rack is the way to go, less drag. Better on gas mileage.

yeah most threads I have looked at say do the mid or bed bars so it wont affect ur gas mileage. From that picture ur tent sits below the cab correct? Front Runner tent?

kb voodoo makes a pretty nice bed rack, mid or full height options. I'm probably going to end up going with theirs, especially because it works with the tonneau cover I want

Yeah I was looking at the Mid heights they had a looks like you can add a lot of attachments. Im probably going to go with the http://www.truckvault.com/ route so that I can load my bike on top of it all I would have to do is removed the rack when I do that and the voodoo I believed isnt that difficult to remove.

I want a bed rack but I also want a tonneau cover so I can have the ability to lock stuff up in the bed. Wish I could have both.

You can have both, we will soon have our brackets finally out for this! You wont be able to flip open the cover all the way but you can still have security and the rack.

Thanks Flytmech - This almost works - but I need to be able to carry my ARB fridge too. This looks to be a couple of inches shy.

I am not currently running my Tepui RTT installed, but had it on top of my cab-high shell for 10's of thousands of miles. A couple of observations, aside from obvious ones about CG height and wind resistance, and the view through the rear window:
    - cab-high is harder to access for folding and unfolding and getting that damn cover zipper closed if you stuff too much bedding in the tent (Tepui, I'm sure others are similar).
    - cab-high is is nice to have clearance to walk under the overhang without hitting your head, when it's folded out, plus shelter from rain or sun etc. A lower mounting height also creates potential problems if you have an annex.
    - lower than cab-high may create clearance issues especially with a 5' bed, for the awning over the window hitting the rear of the cab (depends on tent style).
    - Since I haven't used a rack, this is conjecture, but a low rack restricts access to big stuff in the bed .... even if it fits, you may have to get to it through the tailgate and that may mean moving stuff.
