Is it detachable so you can fold up your softopper easily?

Yes. Remove 2 bolts from either side and it folds over. Or take off all 4 bolts and you can easily remove it

You should really start selling those! Most sensible rack I've seen. There are lots of "hinged" racks for soft top Wranglers, but somehow that has yet to catch on with the companies making them for the Tacoma. Could have yourself a pretty decent side hustle there!

Agreed, I wish @90yota and @Mobtown Offroad would team up and make these :spending:

Lol I'm no fabricator. My booger welds look nasty compared to @Mobtown Offroad welds. They hold, I guess that's what really matters.
I've been told that before. Lol

My buddy has a welderand I've thought about getting some hardware and trying to do it myself. However, the closest I've come to welding is using a soldering gun :bananadance:. Would you happen to have any drawings / plans / materials list that you used for your rack? I get it if you don't want to share.

You are going to need about 40ft of 1.75 .120 wall DOM tubing, .25 plate 4"x36" for the L brackets, 8 shock mounts at a minimum, 4 bushing ends

Where did you find your shock mounts and bushing ends? Any chance you could post an up close picture of them?

I've been looking at the Softopper for my Dakota, but wanted a way to haul kayaks and stuff on top. I came across this post and I absolutely love the idea of being lower profile than a store bought one and the ease of removal. My question is, how heavy is this? I was thinking about using fence post pipe instead for lighter weight because I don't have a need for something as heavy duty as yours and fence post would be A LOT cheaper to build. Any reason I shouldn't go that route?

I did. It was pretty simple.

I went to fastenal and they were able to help me out with a right size nut for the tube. They literally have everything.

Do you happen to know the measurement from the bed rail to the bottom of the rubbing? (Height of it from the bed rail?)

It was around 4inches. I'm not home to measure it I'm on hawaii for a week so I won't be able to do it. But I'm almost positive it was around 4inches

Sorry I meant from the bed rail up to the top of the rack where you’d mount a tent. Basically from the bedrail to top bar on the rack
